Netadelle - Drove past a place selling the outback sleepers today. They had some that had a stone looking face on them, and looked fantastic! I'm sure they'll be more expensive than the plain ones though... Re: Show me your retaining walls! 13Dec 21, 2009 6:18 pm Not as expensive as you would think. The ones we got where the Lonsdale. I think the ones with stone face are the Murray http://www.outbacksleepers.com.au/gallery.htm http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee153/netadelle/IMAGE0005.jpg Re: Show me your retaining walls! 14Dec 22, 2009 9:39 pm Thanks so much for that! Finally got hold of the contour plan for our block today, looks like we'll need to retain about 2m if we just do one straight wall. We're also considering doing two tiers, and having a small garden in between. Whichever way we decide to go, I imagine we'll end up using the sleepers as they look pretty good, and seem like they'd be relatively easy to install. Hope everyone has a really happy and safe Christmas! Re: Show me your retaining walls! 16Dec 28, 2009 4:20 pm bobbin_84 Does anyone have any photo's of a tiered retaining wall with a garden in between? I have googled and found some, but would love to see what others have done with this space! Thanks!! Hi Bobbin We are in the same boat but unsure whether to retain and fill or cut and retain due to the block. We prefer to retain at which the highest point would be 2m then slopes back again to the back which would give is a 800m building envelope. The cost of the wall and fill etc wasnt as bad as I had expected but am concerned about the other costs such as whether it would need pierring etc, compaction reports, engineers etc. Do you have any experience in this regard? Cheers Re: Show me your retaining walls! 17Dec 28, 2009 6:52 pm We have a 1.8mtr drop at the front of our block and are putting in a 3 levels of retaining walls with gardens in between which is actually getting excavated tomorrow but we wont be building the walls until we move in on the 29th of Jan as we are going to do our front fence at the same time but I will post pics of the cut of our walls tomorrow on here Re: Show me your retaining walls! 18Dec 28, 2009 7:33 pm kaindec bobbin_84 Does anyone have any photo's of a tiered retaining wall with a garden in between? Cheers Hey Kaindec, I really have no experience in this at all!! We will have to cut into our block and retain the back, otherwise our house would be 4m off street level, so I guess we have no choice in the matter!! Like you, the cost of the wall is not concerning me at all, as my partner will be able to complete all the work himself - I'm hoping to find out next week some time what the extra costs would be for the footings when I meet with our builder. Let me know what you decide to do!! Re: Show me your retaining walls! 20Dec 28, 2009 7:42 pm There actually painting our house right now the painter was working on xmas eve and boxing day!!!! We had half our kitchen stolen so that probably wont be installed till the last week. but we pretty much just need kitchen appliances installed and carpet and tiles, shower screens and toilets, oh and also driveway and towel rails etc Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6062 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11116 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11759 |
