Argh...no one wants to build me a letterbox!

No brickie wants to buid me a letterbox! I've phoned everyone I can find & there's just too much work & not enough dry days for anyone to be willing to build one (& I want a reasonably big one too - not just a brick pillar).

Is this a project I could try myself? Or is it really something I need a brickie for? And, if so, does anyone know someone in SE Melbourne who might be willing to do it for me?

We got our builder to build it for us, and looking at it now, it looks SO SIMPLE that I would indeed say that you could do it yourself, if you are a little bit handy. I wish I had of, would have saved a few $$$.

I had a quick google, and you need to search for 'mailbox' not 'letterbox'

Thanks for those links - some great stuff there

We've decided to build it ourself. Hubby being the geek he is, insisted we build an unmortered life-size replica out in the backyard first so we can see where the box, etc is to go.

I had some ladies round for lunch today - they thought it was quite funny that I had a letterbox in my backyard.

Don't forget to consider the Australia Post standards for good letterboxes.

These dimensions are well worth following for a number of reasons:

1) No folded up or bent large letters/magazines (Australia Post won't deliver anything exceding these specs)
2) Better security for your mail - also keeps your mail out of the rain (if it rains where you are...)
3) Keeps your postie happy!
