Hi, guys, and welcome new and learned Moderators.
Has anyone had difficulty with sunflower seeds in peat pots? I put one in about eight pots, expected eight sunflower seedlings and got zip, zilch, nada. I think I possibly loved them to death and drowned them.
Then I tried again and replaced the seeds with new ones and, on doing so, had a look for the previous tenants who seemed to have done the bunk. I thought maybe they rotted because I overwatered them. However, after about a week there is still no sign of the new people, who I have been careful not to drown.
In my own defence, I grew two of them in a ceramic pot about six inches in diameter and of proportionate depth (which I have since transplanted into the garden and are going ganbusters), and another one I grew straight into the garden bed.
I guess therein ****** my answer, but I wondered why the peat pots weren't the ticket, because I could just drop them into the earth. The pots are 6cm in diameter and I wondered if they were too small for sunflower seeds. Any clues? Or have I got a real problem because I can't even hatch a sunflower?
