Hi all
Since we are on a roll with our landscaping I thought I'd ask my next phase of questions...
Our backyard will be excavated/levelled/rotary hoed with new sandy loam and organic soil improver in January. This is predominately for the new lawn but I'm hoping it will also cover the area we plan to do around the 2 sides and back of our fence as a garden bed. In this 'garden bed' we plan on planting Pittosporums (I think I read somewhere they are not a favourite of yours, Sorry Fu )
So my questions are:
1) Is a 600mm wide garden bed adequate for around the fenceline for the Pittosporums?
2) How far apart do I plant them? I don't really want a thick/dense hedge, more so they are just touching and look more like individual plants than one big combined plant...I read somewhere else around 1.5m apart??
3) For the garden bed do I need to build it up? Or is it adequate to just put some timber (approx 20cm high) around the permiter of the fence about 600mm out from the fence line and have the actual soil level at the same level as it would be for the grass? Considering it will be freshly hoed soil with the lovely new organic soil/sandy loam...
4) Which are the better types of Pittosporums? My mum has some gorgeous ones, but she doesn't know the name, they are tall and narrorw with a lighter green leaf. I saw Chris and Marie's stock the Silver 'something' ones and the others I have seen are the James Stirling...
Thanks in advance
