Re: Suggestions please - outdoor feature wall 26Dec 17, 2009 12:29 am Re: Suggestions please - outdoor feature wall 27Dec 17, 2009 6:26 am Thanks Fu ....not quite what I want for the feature section of my wall, but I was thinking of an espaliered something-or-other along the side wall of the house, which faces north. I was thinking camellia or some other flowering shrub, but perhaps a fruit tree would be good?
We don't have a lot of room for fruit & veg, but I want to work some in somewhere. I have a spot in mind for my herbs, and I've been eyeing off a dwarf lemon and a grafted Tahitian lime/Kaffir lime at the nursery. Might go look at stone fruit (or pome) as well. The stackerstone stuff is very expensive, plus it needs to be on a very solid frame, and NOT blueboard. There are a few posts around there. I like the idea of lighting, maybe you could build the merbau posts, and light a picture or artwork against the fence to give it a bit of depth. Adrian B Re: Lots of ideas! - outdoor feature wall 37Dec 19, 2009 11:23 pm http://www.colorjack.com/sphere/ Always handy http://kuler.adobe.com/ Mosquitoes are only bad for 3 or 4 months. Then damselflies and dragon flies will lay their eggs. If you have rocks in your ponds never disturb them. Tricoptera and plecoptera and other bottom feeders will move in - mosquito larvae have no chance! Especially of you get frogs.. Re: Lots of ideas! - outdoor feature wall 38Dec 20, 2009 11:35 am Thanks Adrian... I did read that about stackstone and blueboard. Our landscaper is going to build the wall, and we'll (hopefully) have made a decision on what we're using as a feature by then, so we'll make sure it's built to spec. I'm leaning towards something like the stone tiles in the third photo I posted. I've seen some beautiful textured basalt - horrendously expensive, but when you only need a few, that's not such a big deal. The budget won't stretch to fancy lighting and water features at this stage, but we'll put in conduit for future additions. Meanwile, I plan on picking up some cheap Balinese stone lanterns and using them to light up the garden. I also think I need some of these for parties.... I loved it.
