Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 13, 2009 9:30 am We live on 5 acres and currently have all the kids paraphenalia (trampoline, swing sets, monkey bars, slide, cubbyhouse etc) strewed around the backyard. We are wanting to build an area specifically for the kids similar to what you would find in a park but am having trouble finding photo's and inspiration. Can anyone help? Re: Kids Play Areas 2Dec 15, 2009 11:47 pm I am going to put all those things in one large area... on top of a large sandpit... Hence, I don't have to mow around them, through them, etc, etc. Besides, trampoline is a bit heavy for me to move every time I want to mow... which is every weekend at the moment... Also, I am going to put a shade sail over the top until my rain tree get to decent size (might take a while...lol). If you want inspiration, go to the nearest school, you should be able to see what I am talking about. Unfortunately, we haven't started ours yet, otherwise I would be glad to take photos of mine... First step this Christmas holiday is to build the cubby house... Our backyard is currently a mess so today we had an interview with a landscaping designer / architect. Ge has agreed to do concept plans to do a complete children's area as well as a half soccer ground and the pool house. Apparently if will take around 3 wks to get the design done so will be interesting to see what concept he comes up with. Some things are worth waiting for. Casey + Gary + 5 kool kiddos + 1 funky Frenchie + 5 happy hens = barrels of fun in Muswellbrook Re: Kids Play Areas 6Jun 22, 2011 7:47 pm thegilbeys What about bark chips? Anyone have an opinion on those? We used 'soft fall' bark chip mulch for underneath swings and play equipment, same as councils use for the playgrounds in parks. Very happy with it, it looks good and stays in place pretty well. Also stops weeds coming through. Most garden supply centres sell it by the cubic metre. Re: Kids Play Areas 8Jun 27, 2011 10:22 am that looks good, we will be doing the same thing, for our trampoline area. Boxing it off and putting the soft fall mulch, I think it would be better in terms of sand getting in shoes, etc..... I know mulch can be messy also, but sand is harder to clean up, once it's transported back into the house Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
