Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 12, 2009 4:40 pm Yes Mike I'm looking at you Ok so we are about to put in an order for our turf and I need to know the amount we need. The area of our backyard is 8m (deep) x 15.24m (long) so = ~122sqm BUT not all of that will be grass. We want to put a garden bed around the 2 sides and across the back. The garden bed will be used to put Pittosporums (or similar screening) plant in it - I was thinking of having it about 600mm deep. So now that brings the backyard measurements to 7.4m deep x 14.64m wide = ~111sqm BUT we are also putting down a rather large cubby - which is elevated with a sandpit underneath. The cubby itself is 2.4m wide x 2.5m deep, it also has a 3.1m slide coming off it at either the front or side depending on which way we plan to go.... Now the question is do we just put grass where the cubby will go and then just built the cubby over it/sit the sandpit on top of it OR do we build a little frame/low fence like a garden bed around it and fill it with something soft thus reducing the size of grass needed again? If we decided to put the slide off the side of the cubby I'm thinking we might need about 6m in length x 3m deep for the little fence around the cubby, so that takes another 18m2 of the amount of grass we need if I am doing my math correctly.... Meaning instead of ordering 122sqm of grass I will only need about 93sqm of grass for the back...this is a saving of a few hundred but I don't know if it is worth it...or should I just grass the whole area first then build the cubby on top? I obviously have NO idea and am probably making little to NO sense My karma ran over your dogma Re: Who is good at maths?? 2Dec 12, 2009 4:58 pm I think you have a good handle on it Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Who is good at maths?? 3Dec 12, 2009 7:25 pm Really? So which one is it then??! Order the 122 or the 93 sqm? I think I'm just going to go the larger amount in grass and lay the cubby over the top I get too confused otherwise... I think this post was more of a way of me typing it all up and seeing it written in front of me....so nothing to see here carry on as you were My karma ran over your dogma Re: Who is good at maths?? 4Dec 12, 2009 7:28 pm Yep, see you do have it under your control Go half way and fill in the blanks. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Who is good at maths?? 5Dec 13, 2009 12:10 am order either 100m2 or 130m2 You will have to do cuts at some point so allow for the extra. To cut the turf use either an old steak knife or a small timber saw is better still They are cheap as to buy from hardware stores Re: Who is good at maths?? 7Dec 13, 2009 4:21 pm Thanks Havingfun !! That is exactly the same set up as our cubby and it looks fantastic onto the grass!! Yep that is what I want to do!!! I'll just order the 111sqm and leave out the area where the cubby is which should give me plenty of leftovers - I need 50sqm for the front yard too so I think about 170 sqm should do the job My karma ran over your dogma 9 24816 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7304 Hi, I have had them in the past and the pros are: Versatile, i.e many different colours and styles to choose… 1 6886 |
