Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Retaining wall help... 2Dec 11, 2009 10:57 am Cheapest place i've found is in Bayswater - BLB Structural Steel. $43/m for 100mm sleepers. Best to confirm pricing though. Remember to ask where it comes from / what steel it is. There are cheaper beams but they are thinner or cheaper grade metal. 80 metres - jeezus! What are you planning to use as sleepers? Cheers. Must be quite a hill It's a safe bet to go 1 metre each way. You may have to get council permission if it's over 1 metre, or get an engineer to confirm the design as it's structural. If it were me, i'd probably go half a metre under the ground, if it's pretty solid rock, and concrete them in. Make sure you design with drainage in mind!! Re: Retaining wall help... 6Jan 25, 2010 12:02 pm JaHouse I am also new to this. We have a retaining wall just under one meter, and was told to do drainage with blue metal chips and egg liner. Drainage behind any retaining wall is a must if you want it to last years. You need slotted conduit, with the blue metal chips on top of the conduit, then put you 'fill' on top. I used scoria instead of blue chip. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5179 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2637 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16136 |
