Cycads, Kentia palms (make sure they are sun grown ) Cordylines of all sorts. Dianellas of just about any type for lower things. Alstromerias for colour. Magnolia Little Gems are fine in pots. Yuccas Mexican lilys Citrus trees Feijoas are fine in pots. If they look great here, they will look great where you are... Don't get the 'new' variety. They will need a bit of shade to look good. What about some cycads? They are slow growing but tough... Where are you in QLD? Do you want to achieve the tropical look or more the xeric look? Frangipani will take a lot of sun with minimal water too... but won't go with Yucca, IMO. Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly.
