Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 07, 2009 11:55 am We've had 4mm of rain in the last 30 days, and temps up to 40, mostly around 35 every day. 2 decent soakings a week on my yard and there's no moisture left in the soil, and im struggling to keep up. Top that if with a strong breeze that kicks on every afternoon, i think im doomed. What is a man supposed to do? I may as well live in the middle of the desert at this rate. Should I just lay concrete and replace the lawn? Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Things nearly done. Im using that for the backyard, but we're just getting hammered with heat, wind & no rain. Not a good combo for trying to keep a new lawn really nice. Luckily it's established so it will come back next autumn, I imagine a new lawn would be so frustrating to lose! Earlier this year I planted a row of box headges out the front which I now regret, slowest growing thing EVER, and now they are dying in the heat anyway. Re: High Temps & No Rain Make Lawn Care hard :-( 10Dec 07, 2009 8:53 pm Just feed the soil and get the lawn as strong as it can get. Seasol, Powerfeed, molasses. Blood and bone in winter. Use wetting agents when ever possible (as in every few months) and the one I suggest is Saturaid. It's the only one I can honestly say cuts the mustard in Perths extreme soil hydrophobia. If it works here, it'll work better still anywhere else. "sand remedy" is another extremely good one but I think only available to West Aussies You can only do so much, the rest has to wait for rain. Roll on wet season further North and summer storms for Ipswich? Re: High Temps & No Rain Make Lawn Care hard :-( 11Dec 07, 2009 9:17 pm Hi Bill, I feel your pain Ipswich is such a weird climate. a month back we got 100mm in 40minutes and it destroyed our front yard from the run off by neighbours who had failed to implement any drainage strategies (literally the day after having all our earth works and top soil put down )...now its so hot we could fry an egg on our drive way the weather extremes are amazing! and such a challenging task for us these days...i almost cry when I think of our climate when I was growing up - you could set your watch by a storm at 3pm in the arvo during summer now its either all or nothing We are on an acre and have a biolytix sewerage system which sub-surface irrigates a large portion of our lawn, I am glad we paid the extra money to have that but we are still hurting in a massive way, particularly trying to establish lawn around the house. Plants aren't the problem for us either I have a big thick layer of mulch around all my trees actually the only ones I have lost are lillypillies (wish I had of listened to fu on that one ) and as they die I am planting them with grevilleas and bottlebrushes...for us its grass too...so frustrating thanks fu for your tips on which soil wetter to use I was just wondering that and you are always to the rescue! Goodluck Bill, I hope your grass comes good when we finally get some type of decent rain that just doesn't run off into the gutter like nice soaking beautiful drizzle ---- what does that look like I have forgotten!!!! Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! 5 10471 Hi, does anyone have any experience with using Trex rain escape or EPDM rubber to waterproof a deck so you have dry space underneath.
