Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 06, 2009 6:55 am Has anyone had to have an ecology report done on their block? Can anyone give me some indication of cost? We are near a local reserve, and a part of our land approx 15m x 40m is covered in trees and undergrowth (most of the undergrowth has been cleared due to bushfire hazard). We want to remove most of the trees in that area to build a new home, council has requested an ecology report reporting on any Fauna that may be impacted. Any advice appreciated. I thought you could remove anything without a permit it you had under 0.4 hectares, but over this size you need permits for removal of any native vegetation. I'm talking about Victoria, not sure what the other states are like. There is a "Native Vegetation: planning permit applicant's kit" available on the DSE website ....I wonder whether this would be of any use to you? Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day. Re: Ecology Report for council 3Dec 08, 2009 7:46 pm I would strongly advise contracting a qualified Arbourist or Abouriculturist as they are sometimes called and get a report done of the trees on the block. this will help you decide which to get rid of and which to keep and allow for a justification on the ones to get rid of and why I'll have to find the links in another thread or you can seach the word Arborist and my name in the user control panel. Great idea to get an assessment done. you will have an excellent understanding and I hope a great appreciation for what is living in your area and more importantly around your future home These are pretty common, especially on commercial projects. Here is an example of what these reports are like http://www.penrice.com.au/pdf/Quarry/MP ... ssment.pdf Re: Ecology Report for council 4Dec 13, 2009 6:38 am Thanks for the help. The land is 3500sqm but is in NSW, Our landscape architect (council requirement for new homes) completed the tree survey, but has not satisfied the Fauna concerns. Both the lanscape architect and my architect have guided me to a qualified person, so I am now awaiting a quote.
