Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 14, 2009 1:05 pm Hi All Just wondering what is the best product to use to waterproof a parapet wall. I've built a raised garden bed along the boundray where my neighbour has a parapet wall for their garage. Just want to waterproof the wall before i fill with soil to avoid any dampness going through. Alternatively should i just construct another wall infront of the parapet as better protection??? In regards to parapet wall what are the rules / regulations in regards to mounting any fixtures on them. I would like to run some wire along the wall for a creeper to grow over..... is this allowed. Thanks Anthony Re: Raised Garden Beds - Parapet Wall 2Nov 14, 2009 1:42 pm Don't know about the fixings... ...but do know about waterproofing systems http://www.sika.com.au/cmc/Datasheets/t ... BE_tds.pdf http://www.sika.com.au/cmc/Datasheets/t ... NAL667.pdf There may be of use to you There are lots of manufacturers of waterproofing systems... If I knew you location I could possibly find some thing closer. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Raised Garden Beds - Parapet Wall 4Nov 16, 2009 8:22 am In regards to the waterproofing, will a sheet of blueboard / villaboard and black builders plastic offer adequate protection to the wall. I dont really want the neighbours complaining down the track about any dampness coming through the wall into their garage. What are peoples thoughts on the above. I plan on filling this garden bed on the weekend, so i need to sort this out soon. Thanks Anthony Re: Raised Garden Beds - Parapet Wall 5Nov 18, 2009 6:27 pm something you will really need to take note of is if they had termimesh in the construction of the wall. If they have and you build a raised bed against it in anyway, you will be responsible for the liabilities associated with termite damage on the property. A raised bed will compromise the integrity of the termimesh and potentially allowing termites into the roof structure bypassing the barrier in the brickwork. This a common addition in WA double brick constructions. Re: Raised Garden Beds - Parapet Wall 6Nov 21, 2009 4:29 pm Hi All After some discussion with my local council i need to build a retaining wall so that there is no soil touching their parapet wall. I plan on building the wall using limestone bolcks and leaving a 10mm - 20mm gap between the back of the retaining wall & the parapet wall. Once the plants go in and grow you will no longer notice it. Looks like i need to spend more money on blocks before i can fill up the garden beds ;( Thanks for all your replies Anthony Agree, Riviera from Clarendon looks beautiful. I've seen one with a light-colored bricks and just a bit of molding (in my neighborhood). It's definitely overpriced. I'm… 10 6320 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
