I am making a raised garden bed for vegies and flower, the soil that I have on the land is quite poor because when I was digging holes in the yard I could not see any worms or insects in it at all, I think the soil is clay I am in Melb west.
If I am to use the same soil in the vege bed, what can I add to the soil to make it more healthy , I have read in other post that adding gypsum to clay soil will be beneficial for drainage, but would that be enough to make the soil healthy or should I add organic soil on top of the clay soil or some post talk about putting sandy loam as the top layer of the soil?
Would adding worms to the top soil be a good way of making the soil healthy? But then there has to be nutrient in the soil for the worms to do their thing.
What would be the best way to prepare the soil for the vege bed? Advise please..
