Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 26, 2009 8:26 am Im going to put in at least 1 water tank for irrigation and the only spot I can put it is outside the media room window. Just thought I'd see if any of you have been creative with hiding or concealing your water tanks. Google gave me nothing at all, am I alone in trying to hide my tank/s? Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 2Oct 26, 2009 10:49 am We are just in the process of building, but like you I want to 'hide' the tank. I am currently thinking of getting a few of the 20cm slimline ones and running them down the 'dead' side of the house. The house is 1mtr of the boundary, and apparantly 80cm is the normal width for a side path. So that is what I am aiming for Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 3Oct 26, 2009 10:59 am I guess your talking about those wall tanks that just lock in together, i did some looking into those and i didnt think they were being sold here yet? do you have any more info? I have some space behind my shed thats 550mm and 7m long so would definitely rather use this space but these small thin tanks do also come at a premium Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. You might be able to call them and get more info. I found this link on the Home Ideas website. http://www.homeideas.com.au/pages/adelaide.php?product_id=3858 Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 5Oct 26, 2009 11:47 am Burying your tanks is an option (if you don't have rock!). Also, it is reasonably common to have the water tank placed away from the house in the back corner of the yard. The downpipe feeds a buried pipe that goes to the tank. (The downpipes will always have water in them to the height of the tank inlet.) You could also try a vertical garden in front of it, or a screening fence or wall? Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 6Oct 26, 2009 12:04 pm At the back of our house the wall steps back, this is where we have the air cond unit and the two tanks. We chose a colour (dune) which is as close to the wall colour as possible and they are not in your face at all. He had an excavator dig down 1m so that the height of the tank isn't so imposing. I think he will plant a few shrubs around it- he mentioned putting landscaping rocks around the front of it first (so the dirt doesn't collapse into the tank) and slotting in some succulents. They have soft foliage and some of them have dense clump. The roots don't go very deep so it won't wreck your tank foundation... I planted some frangipani & small palms around mine. Mine is 10,000L tank... at the moment, it is still in 'your' face, but in a few years time... hopefully the tropical foliage will cover it. We are making it a part of our water feature... the overflow of the tank will fall to a big pot which will fall to the 'future' pond.. etc, etc.. My garden is still a work in progress... Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 11Oct 27, 2009 1:17 pm This kind of thing is common around here, for hiding water tanks, pool equipment and so on: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You can even buy ready-made screen panels from Bunnings and just bolt them to posts or walls. Building your own would ensure you have the right size and I'm sure it's cheaper, but for convenience.... Then you just plant some screening shrubs in front of it and Poof! No more tank! Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 13Oct 27, 2009 1:39 pm hmm now thats something i could live with, thanks for the pics thats exactly what im after, might give me some better buy in from the better half Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. But thanks to a tight fit on our block, we had to go for a slimline version and stick it around the blind side of the house. It's unseen, but cost us a few extra $$. We'll be building a timber slat screen to hide our HWS and small shed though. Don't need to be looking at those from the al fresco room. Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 15Oct 27, 2009 2:01 pm Yer id love to go an aqua clad steel/colorbond water tank and shove it behind our shed but the cost for a 6000L tank is nearly 5k. The $700 or so for the poly sounds a lot easier to take, its only for irrigation so cant justify spending a fortune. Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 16Oct 27, 2009 2:45 pm The screening panels kek was talking about at Bunnings are $89 from memory. I've seen them. Can't remember the dimensions though. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Pics or Idea's for Hiding Water Tank 17Oct 30, 2009 11:51 am It is easy enough to DIY... so you can put steel column on the ground instead of wood. Being in QLD, the termite will eat it in no time... Besides, when or if the wood perished, you can always put new decking timber in without replacing the columns. Regards, Ari Ari & Scott Darwin, NT 18 90373 From what I know about water tanks (I've been working with a client on them for a few years now) is this - The concrete can last a lifetime if they don't crack for some… 2 10524 If you can calculate the reasonable charged head from let's say 100mm below the gutter to the top of where the vertical riser's horizontal discharge pipe will be, that… 11 17516 |
