Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 25, 2009 10:41 am Hi All Just after some rough idea on retaining wall costs depending on product used (incl install) per sqm if anyone has and idea - Concrete Sleepers - Besser Block - Timber - Sandstone - What else is out there I guess both costs for over 1m and under 1m since that seems to be the average council height before permit is required. We are currently looking at building a retaining wall about1.5m in height, looking at all options but thought id try get other peoples feedback and costs Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 2Oct 25, 2009 11:51 am scott_tanya What else is out there Various kinds of modular concrete retaining wall blocks. Here are a few to give you an idea. http://www.bruceworks.com.au/retaining- ... stems.html http://www.ambertiles.com.au/product_ra ... ning_walls The smaller ones are good fun to lay and look great but can't go as high. The big ones sure give you a bit of exercise but with appropriate additional features you can build some of them up a fair way. Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 3Oct 26, 2009 11:12 am I'm no help but will be watching this thread with interest. I just came on to check exact same thing as we are deciding on whether to have a retaining wall or not depending on budget. Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 5Oct 27, 2009 12:54 pm Hi, A couple of years ago we had a 23m long, 1.2m h straight wall built using keystone AB blocks. The foundation ended up being concrete with blue metal. The cost was approx $7500 ($262/sqm). Recently we extended the wall by 5m. Downside of the experience was the individual blocks went up in price to $22 (they were $14 a couple of years ago). The cost for the blocks was $1100, add foundation layer and the excavation and the costs were $1500 ( same height of 1.2m) without labour ($227/sqm). gongbuilding Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 6Oct 27, 2009 3:02 pm neil_se I don't have a m2 cost because we had stairs done at the same time, but our A grade sandstone cost less than the quotes we had for timber. Likewise, I'll be watching this thread as we are in the same boat. Neil_se- do you have a total cost and size (height and length) of the wall you got that you are willing to share? Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 8Oct 27, 2009 10:56 pm Here's some pics of the walls and stairs that will give a better idea, I haven't added up the total number of blocks but they're 1000x500x500mm. Cost was $3700, timber was quoted at $4100 and $9500 (included deco granite infill). Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 10Oct 28, 2009 6:21 am OK here are some early ones we have received back. Will update as i get more. Area 1 (1.6m high by 30m) - Timber (H5) $160sqm (but doesnt incl council, engineers or drainage yet) Area 2 (1.0m high by 15m) - A Grade Sawn Sandstone $440sqm layed. - Concrete sleepers (that look like sandstone) $275sqm layed Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 11Oct 28, 2009 6:41 am i'm not sure of the sqm cost but we used rock bolders cost about $6500 all up about 25m on 2 sides and 15m on the other just over 1m at the highest point down to nothing at the ends. still need alittle more work after the bricks go up. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o194/millymonster/PA200099.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o194/millymonster/IMG_3626.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o194/millymonster/PA100024.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o194/millymonster/P8260177.jpg Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 12Oct 28, 2009 8:24 am Both the sandstone blocks and the boulder walls look awesome guys! It's great to see alternatives. Thanks Re: Retaining wall rough costs for different walls (pls add) 13Nov 06, 2009 10:53 am We got a few quotes back now. Our wall is about 8.5m long and 1m high. For timber sleepers, we got quoted $1600 For Boral sandstone looking blocks, we got quoted $2035, $2100 and $2650 (different people). Hope that helps. Was that just for the rocks?? Or labour as well? If it was for labour as well.... do you have any idea how much the rocks cost alone? I'm looking at something similar. Thanks. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
