Re: Fence plants for privacy 3Oct 07, 2009 3:57 pm devank You could use Hibiscus. This can grow up to 3m. Gives varieties of flowers and ever green. Some Japanese Boxes can grow 2m. Sweet Viburnum or Lilly Pilly can go as high as 4-6 meters. Thanks, I quite like the idea of hibiscus, and there are some many different varieties. Would add nice colours. Re: Fence plants for privacy 4Oct 07, 2009 5:34 pm Hibiscus "Fijian Pink" is a fav of mine The absolute pick for that spot is Vibernum Emerald Lustre it would be a speccie choice for there. Excellent hedging plant. There are shinto loads of WA plants that would be way better for a spot like that for the WA readers Forget lily pillys, totally over rated and very prone to disease. The controls of which are some of the most toxic sold in retail outlets. ie. rogor. (there is a commercial product available that is granular) Re: Fence plants for privacy 5Oct 07, 2009 6:04 pm Hey there, unrealted I know but can I have a photo of your retaining wall please it looks like just rocks. Is it expensive as we have a large area that needs something similar? Harribeka Re: Fence plants for privacy 6Oct 08, 2009 7:57 am Thanks Fu Manchu, I just googled Vibernum Emerald Lusture and it does look like an excellent plant to go along the fenceline. It will defn give us some privacy from the neighbours as we would like to use our alfresco area more. Harribeka, when we bought the land from stockland the rock retaining wall came with it which was lucky for us. I can take some close up pics for you when I can if you like. Re: Fence plants for privacy 7Oct 09, 2009 12:27 pm Ah, I was wondering why you didn't like lilly pillys Fu I'm looking for an excuse for a small hedge and current fav is a Westringia... what's the least likely small native hedgy thing to get woody gaps, or does it only depend on trimming it often enough? (/hijack) Re: Fence plants for privacy 8Oct 09, 2009 12:50 pm Fu Manchu Forget lily pillys, totally over rated and very prone to disease. (there is a commercial product available that is granular) We have already specified lily pillys in our landscape plan. Are there are other better plants which are similar to lily pillys? Re: Fence plants for privacy 9Oct 09, 2009 3:43 pm Vibernum Tinus is more waterwise and will outperform the lily pilly of any species. As for woody gaps, well that happens with any plant if it isn't clipped often enough. always only clip soft growth if possible for tight lush looking hedges, whether it's a native or not. Problem averted Re: Fence plants for privacy 11Nov 15, 2009 11:29 pm Fu Manchu Vibernum Tinus is more waterwise and will outperform the lily pilly of any species. Flower Power lovely lady suggested Acmena Smithii Rheophytic. Got 14 of them for $140.00. Apprantly that's a half price. Re: Fence plants for privacy 12Nov 17, 2009 8:27 am murraya paniculata choisyia ternata ---- both with great foliage and fragrant flowers. Last month's home beautiful had an example of this. if you are after colour- varieties of leucodedrons/proteas just gorgeous ad you can get great cut flowers too. just my 2cents Fu would be better advisor on climate suitbility in your area. good luck Re: Fence plants for privacy 14Jan 07, 2011 12:23 am Quote: There are shinto loads of WA plants that would be way better for a spot like that for the WA readers As a WA reader I'm interested in your suggestions Fu! Hi guys We have just removed a very large grape vine which was mounted to a structure along this wall. This is a shared wall with our neighbour, and after removal, we… 0 3953 Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine. 2 10240 |
