Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 26, 2009 4:08 pm We have recently had a couple of quotes for landscaping. Both came in similarly, but more expensive than we originally anticipated. We would dearly love it done but unsure if we are going to spend to much! Our house is mid-70s build surrounded by lovely homes and lots of bushland and large well established trees - def the worst house in best street!! We currently use our porte cochere and attached carport as play area for our kids, esp in winter as it faces north and we have a large fenced front garden. We recently repainted and reroofed the carport with new solar flex and it looks great (well did till it got covered in red dust!!). The groundcover is half pebblecrete (porte cochere and all driveways, in good condition) and half old broken uneven concrete pavers with many different levels under carport. We have two driveways sloping down from the front gate, one to the carport and one to the house (the last owners had sons who loved cars!!). In between the two driveways is a horrid little scrabbly garden and triangular patch of grass we have to mow. We also have a huge gum tree overhanging the driveways (recently tidying by an arborist) The leaf litter and sloping driveways mean whenever it rains the drains block and flood the whole area in front of the front door. And the unevenness and various levels and steps make it a nightmare to sweep and keep clean. So it looks very daggy and tired when it should be a lovely place to sit and watch the kids play. We have had a quote for a deck under the porte cochere (to act as a front porch) which will be laid over the pebble crete (about 22 sqm); removing current paving, excavating and levelling out the carport and paving (about 22sqm) and sorting out drainage all for about $10.4K excluding paving stones. We also have a quote for sawing one pebblecrete driveway into a curving garden path leading to the decking, pulling up current garden and lawn and planting new screening plants (mostly palms) for privacy for about $5.8K. Still leaves ample room for parking. The landscaper comes highly recommended and recently put up a retaining wall for our nextdoor neighbours. Six guys turned up and worked solidly for about 14 hours and had it done in a day! I was impressed! Re: Is this a reasonable price for landscaping? 2Sep 27, 2009 9:02 pm Without dimensions of the area, and timber/pavers used it's difficult to assess the price. The most important thing to look at, is the quality and demeanor of the contractor. Ask questions about the job, it's construction, and what previous work they have done. If you can get someone who knows what they are talking about, is willing to show examples of previous projects and comes across as good to deal with, you're almost there. Usually if they demonstrate a good attitude in this department their prices will be fair as well. Re: Is this a reasonable price for landscaping? 3Sep 29, 2009 12:19 am The best way is to check the links at the top of the landscape forum re: choosing a landscaper. That will give you an idea Re: Is this a reasonable price for landscaping? 4Sep 30, 2009 12:11 pm PL. Thanks for the tip. Have a great feel about the guy. He was recommended by the neighbours and I can see the retaining wall he built for them from where I sit. They are very happy! Think we'll go with it - have him round again on Saturday for a more detailed chat. Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 31778 Seems good to me. I've been told $4-5k/sqm is reasonable in Perth. 2 7826 Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar.
