Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 21, 2009 12:47 pm Hi all, Does anyone know how to get rid of Vinca minor (periwinkle - purple flowers)? We have lots of it, and desperately want to get rid of it, but nothing seems to work! It is growing under and through a wire fence, so digging it out is not really a viable option, and doesn't seem to work anyway, zero/roundup doesn't touch it, and I was thinking of trying blackberry poison, but really don't want to do this, as we try to keep an organic poison free garden as we have 4 children and pets, but we really need to get rid of this stuff as it is taking over - any ideas anyone???? Can't believe that they still sell this in garden shops etc as ground covers........beware!! Thanks in anticipation, Sarah Re: How do you get rid of Vinca (periwinkle) 2Sep 28, 2009 11:57 pm Nasty stuff and something anyone who is a member of the NGIA (nursery and garden industry association) should not be either growing or selling to retail outlets. Agreed, garden centres need to pull their socks up on this because they are the last line of defence. You are going to have to use black berry killer and to bad so sad for treating it because you have no organic options other than fire, and even then, the bloody stuff will come back. Search for some of my posts on blackberry and woody weed killer for how to get the best success with it. Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single… 1 12666 9 24796 Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7181 |
