Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 16, 2009 11:55 am Hi All We just in the phase where out Kikuyu grass has started to look like a bit of a forest. Hence hubby and I went around searching for mower. It will be good to know your experiences of mower. The ones i came across were - Electric with battery (eg victa enviro) - Petrol 4 stroke (eg: masport , seems it needs petrol and oil) - petrol 2 stroke( only petrol, no oil) ALL I HEARD: Seems all have rotatory blades except i think the 4 stroke with more. The guy at store mentioned electric is better for environment and has battery charge flipside "i heard" the power is not as much. For petrol - "heard "- have more power but messy, noisy and needs loads of servicing. wats your pick ?? Any thoughts and 'mowing experiences' Re: Take your pick- Electric / Petrol Lawn Mower 2Sep 16, 2009 12:49 pm The first question I would ask is how big is the area you need to mow? Personally I would never buy anything but a 4 stroke petrol, and as I have an 800 square metre block I got something mid range, the salesmen said that basic petrol mowers are made with a particular duty cycle in mind, and if you run the mower for more than 30 minutes it will start to chew petrol etc. I also purchased one with 4 blades rather than 2 to improve performance. 4 strokes only require basic servicing, which can be done at home easily (oil, filter, plug). And this doesnt have to be done often. Ive never done this more than every few years. 2 stroke's would be fiddly and noisy electric mower, seriously? if youve got some serious grass i cant see an electric mower having the nuts, or the longevity to cut it, but ive never used one so cant comment Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Hmm given its hardy Kikiyu variety i would wonder how electric one would be..! Re: Take your pick- Electric / Petrol Lawn Mower 4Sep 21, 2009 11:47 am Wow There seems to be a clear winner in the poll (as of now ) Thanks everyone for your responses ! I went over the weekend and got a Masport 4 stroke with about 50 min mowing time capacity. I was told by the bunnings guy that there is no way Kikuyu can be cut with an electric !! I tested it over the weekend and it was great. Cut the grass beautifully ( not to mention clearing the "forest" and exposing the brown areas The only thing which was a bit annoying was the catcher box . there are 2 parts which need to be clicked tog n then fitted at back of mower. The two halves kept opening up which was.... I may get it checked with the fella at bunnings. We bought ours, though it was a rover, 25 years ago, I cut the grass every week and it has been serviced ever now and than and it works great, I even use it to munch some of my soft garden clippings LOL. It needs a service now however Maggie You may still have a case, but your next step is to speak to a lawyer. 3 1624 Hi everyone!
