Hi guys - it's been a while!
We are in the process of trying to put up a side fence and build a deck (I'd prefer concrete but decking seems the cheaper option), and organise what we are doing with the garden beds.
I am pretty happy with having a mostly native garden because they mostly withstand our drought conditions once established and can tolerate the occasional frost that we get here in Melbourne.
I am looking at mostly Grevilleas, followed by a few Callistemons (Bottlebrush) and Banksias. We plan to prune the plants to no more than 2.5m high so it will encourage them to bush up more and not become straggly.
We already have some Dietes at the front and I am hoping to add to these and continue them as a ground-cover of sorts in the back garden beds as well.
I have found a nursery that sells online and their prices are $6.95ea for the plants listed above in 14mm pots. Delivery is a standard $30 inside the Melbourne Metro area.
I'm happy to plant them little and have them grow over the next few years rather than buying bigger from the start.
The problem I am finding is that nowhere lists their prices on the internet, and I don't have the time or the inclination to drag 2 young kids to a whole heap of nurseries to compare prices.
I have been to a large local nursery and found that they were slightly dearer for each plant and the plant size (height) seemed to be smaller (and dare I say slightly less healthy) than the pictures indicate for the online ones (they included a photo with a ruler).
So, does anyone know if this price is good, bad or indifferent?
Also, would you or have you bought plant online?
Lastly, if you have some advice about the plants listed above that you think I may not have taken into consideration please let me know!
Ray.
