Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 04, 2009 2:01 pm We have two garden beds on each side of the driveway, where one of it I had Avonview Lavenders planted and the other has got nothing. Am thinking to get Marigold® 30-100mm pebbles from Soilworx in melb to lay over it to stop the weeds from popping at the other side. Where the Lavender is, I'm going to do the same. Will this affect the growth of the Lavenders? Does the size of the pebbles matters? Re: Pebbles for the side of the drive ways 2Sep 04, 2009 2:13 pm What effects the growth of lavender, 1. Wrong soil. They love very alkaline (limey) soils. lots of dolomite of lime regularly for those of you not on the SA sou' east coast and WA. 2. No pruning or irregular clipping. Always clip them and never into hard wood. After every flush and they'll go for ever. 3. Having pebbles up against the stems. Moisture builds and collar rot can happen, stopping sap flow to the rest of the plant and it is dead weeks later. Keep the stems clear and all should be well. Re: Pebbles for the side of the drive ways 4Sep 04, 2009 2:27 pm Yes but only if done to 75-100mm thick. Any less than that of pebbles or mulch can have the opposite effect.
