I set this up early this year. This is what I did.
1. Bought the half wine barrel at a landscape shop (ANL – Seven Hills, NSW).
2. Cleaned (with what ever I can think of- Brush, washing power, steamer.. you name it!) at least 10 times over a 2 weeks period.
3. Ordered a water fountain feature (bubble) with filter on Ebay. Water comes through three simple filters before sprays out.
4. Bought three water plants. One to produce O2 under water. One to cover the water (water lilly) . One to grow out of water .
5. Placed two cleaned large rocks in the barrel and placed plants in the right spot. Then only filled the barrel with water slowly. This way you don’t make the pot soil to mix with the water.
6. After 5 days (under sun), introduced 3 fish.
7. Once a month take out the filter and clean.
8. Every two days take out about half a bucket of water and add one bucket of water (which is left out in the sun for a day or two).
