Quicker and easy to use a shovel than that toy. Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 444Oct 23, 2010 5:25 pm Gildea - the grass would go great guns! Most lawn mixes are 60% sand, 40% soil - allows for good root penetration. We just dug up about 60m2 of garden bed today with a rotary hoe - but the beefy hydraulic kind - fantastic! After 4 years - we're in! Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 445Oct 23, 2010 6:23 pm Sorry, I know grass will grow if I placed it ontop of said mix, but if I just but composte/sand in the hole, without putting new grass on top, will the existing grass spread and cover the whole? Interesting... Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 447Oct 24, 2010 6:10 pm What does everyone recomend for watering their lawns. A hand held, soaker hose or a sprinkler? I went to the big boys toys store today and there were so many that i walked away with nothing. Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 448Oct 24, 2010 6:50 pm For god's sake please use irrigation with a waterwise MP rotators or subsurface for those with the money for under turf set ups. Soaker hoses are extremely inefficient. Hand watering should be done carefully as it uses a massive amount of water compared with any sort of irrigation. Please search for my hand watering guide I wrote up here at Homeone. Follows on from studies and trials done here in WA on water efficiency and application methods. For irrigation/reticulation use multiple short waterings to give the soil the chance to absorb the moisture before receiving a follow up short water. This increases the effectiveness of the water applied by around 25%-30%. Same volume of water but better results The timing of the water cycles will depend on your retic controller and also the type of sprinkler used. Most have the ability to have 3 start times, make use of them! Lets base this on what an inefficient junk cheap popup might do. Use a 3 min watering and then cycle through the same for other stations. Say there are 8 stations in your system. That means your irrigation will run for 24mins. Have the next water cycle start 30 mins later after the first start time and so on. For using an MP rotator, they would take around 30-40mins to deliver the required 10mm so use three 10 min cycles To work out how much should go on the lawn or garden, use the lid from an SPC fruit bits container or Goulburn Valley pear halves container. Those green plastic lids will hold exactly the equivalent of 10mm of rain. That is a pretty good amount for any garden in one go in most parts of Australia. Just chuck them out there in the garden and on the lawn to see how long it takes to fill and there is your 10mm of water Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 449Oct 24, 2010 6:53 pm Also when hand watering the type of nozzle used or trigger spray makes a massive difference in the effectiveness of the hand watering. MASSIVE! This is why there is really only two nozzles I use and recommend. Which ones are they? Well a quick search will reveal that too. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=39000 Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 450Oct 24, 2010 6:54 pm I think we should start a new thread for watering. Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 452Oct 24, 2010 11:03 pm Princess Leiah Help me Fu Manchu Your our only hope Nice one Princess Mecha Just rake in some certified organic bagged compost. Cut some healthy plugs and fill with the organic compost in those spots too Molasses and concentrate also on the immediate area around the patches so that becomes a bit more vigorous and will get some legs and also grow in to fill the gap/viod With some hot weather that stuff will get going like a rocket and it will be real cool Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 453Oct 26, 2010 11:58 am Fu,fu,fu! Guess what? I bought 2 40kilo bags of Seamungus for $40-50 each from that supplier you let me know about! 80kilos of Seamungus for $81!!! Sure beats paying $35 for a 12kilo tub from Bunnings! You should turn this into a consulting business; I'd pay for you to come out and tell me what to do! A bit confused about what soil/compost to get to mix into my duplex gravelly stuff in Maida Vale. Are we talking Landscape Mixes etc or actual compost? I'll be getting them from here: http://www.littleloads.com.au/products.html Going to be a bit of a challenge. Half the lawn area is gravelly sandy clay (if that makes sense) and the other half is sharp sand poured over the leach drains! Is there anything I need to consider when planting over these drains? They're gal mash with 30-40cm of sharp sand on top. Thanks Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 455Oct 26, 2010 8:20 pm Well done Dee. deemaree all your plants will love it too. Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 456Oct 26, 2010 10:53 pm That was from Landmark in Colac? Pretty sure that is where I said Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 457Oct 26, 2010 10:58 pm linelefty, I sometimes use their Premium compost. That is lovely stuff. Go with that, it won't bother natives, I can vouch for that Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 458Oct 27, 2010 7:42 am I spoke to our local Landmark boys and they got it shipped from the Colac store!
