Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 293Aug 20, 2010 10:27 pm Hey Fu, You've sold me on going organic. I am purchasing a new place, (duplex) and the lawn was layed as part of the purchase. I've got about 80 square metres of back lawn in which I've asked the builder to put in sapphire buffalo. I think the builder ploughed the existing soil and put several inches of top soil and layed the turf. Its too late to do proper soil preparation. Can you please advise? Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 294Aug 23, 2010 7:07 pm Mate good to hear from ya and thanks for joining us. Using more organic growing just makes sense. It will make things far easier. Not much you can do about what has been done but depending on where you live will depend on what is next Get some Olsens Green Bio or this stuff which ironically has the Olsen name associated but not sure if there is any coincidence? http://bioasis.com.au/ Either way Seamungus, seasol, powerfeed, molasses, blood and bone are going to be a treat for it too Keep a regular use of wetting agents especially as summer comes near. It is water that makes it green not fertiliser the way most people use it Let me know where you are at Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 295Aug 24, 2010 2:43 pm Thanks Fu! Am quite excited about joining the cause. I live in Western Sydney, so the soil is mostly clay. Should I use a fork and make some holes and spread some perlite later down the track? Have been using the seasol. The turf is taking as its starting to green up abit, (when it was layed it had abit of frost damage). Will use powerfeed and molases and blood and bone come spring. Love your advice. Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 296Aug 24, 2010 10:39 pm I'd look to getting zeolite down if anything. Perlite is mainly used in propagation and in some potting mixes. It won't act the same in the soil as Zeolite. Sand too will be a benefit. Zeolite is found in River Safe Wetting agent, in Agricultural supply outlets as well. Organic composts too. Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 297Aug 24, 2010 11:05 pm no_idea, read this thread re zeolite in sydney Edit : sorry forgot the link : http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=26144&hilit=zeolite You'll find the sydney supplier further down the page. Spartan Hard Fescue & Azay Sheep Fescue can withstand long periods without water, are fine textured, shade tolerant bunch type grasses. Once established they display an extremely low growth rate and prefer poor soils as competition is minimised. Native Image should be used in areas where little or no irrigation or fertilizer will be applied. Grows to a maximum height of six inches per annum and may only need mown once a year." ( yep, i did read you suggest turf rather than seed, and mentioned cool season turf/seed will use more water) I don't understand for cool seasoned grass, will they look brown/ dormant in summer ? A part of the area for the lawn will have harsh western sun and a part will be shaded. But I checked Munns arid is also a cool season grass. So what seed should I pick? Re: TURF LAYING SUMMARY and what has become many things turf 300Aug 26, 2010 8:24 pm I can not comment on these. I have however made non brand or variety specific posts on the mentioned turf species only. A pretty controversial topic in turf circles. There is a market for it and they are entitled to sell them. I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 2214 Hey There. No problems re jumping in.
