Also fu in regards to an earlier message zoysia takes the same time to grow back from after being cut as other variety besides kikuyu which grows faster the reason for turf farmers to not have it in stock is that the demand is in no way high enough to go planting mass acres because it is more popular as a commercial grass used on council strips ect. But once again its your preference that counts when it comes to choosing your lawn
sirwalter is the best performing lawn on the market for australian climate reason being it was born and bred in australia palmetto is also good but slower growing.
Muscat, sorry, sir walter isnt the best grass oz wide. Thats marketing spin. SW (all buffalos' btw) perform pathetically under any common wear in Victoria over winter. Not to mention high wear in summer. And yes SW is born and bred australian, but its not a native turf. Again marketing spin, SW parents are exotic tropical grasses. Being bred in Australia doesnt make SW perform better for any reason. Maybe in the context of buffalo grasses it helps but not against compeletly different species of grass. Sir Walter is a good grass, no doubt, but it isnt god's gift to lawn owners. Just like empire isnt either.
There isn't one. As with any good horticultural practices, plant selection to match the site condition is the key. Eg in victoria a full sun yard with kids and dogs, kikuyu/couch will outperform buffalo. But in a front yard with some shade and no traffic buffalo or zoysia will work way better. There isnt one grass that fits all. Buffalo is a good all rounder grass, kinda a jack of all trades and a master of none sort of turf.
I love our buffalo. But fungus is a big problem. I have Take All Root Rot in the front lawn and the only way to get rid of it is to dig up and replace the dead patches!
