Coloured concrete is quoted at about $65per sqm which works out to be about 38.5x65 = ~$2500. How much do you think it would cost to deck the same area? oh lisa lisa, such an optimistic young lass, the short answer is, well, no. I'm afraid we are asking the same question for our alfresco area. Ours is 6.3 x 3.3m. And I want to actually have it extend beyond the house boundry, maybe another 1.5x 1.5 - it looks great. Anyways, I'm not sure what coloured concrete is, so I'll take your answer. If you are considering merbau, you can get it for about $100sqm supply materials only, and that's a cheap price. That does not include installation. Some will charge about another $100sqm to install, you may find someone a bit cheaper. Basically, it's over double the cost of colour concrete. I know which one I'd prefer, but I'm pretty sure which one I'll be getting! If I were to do just my alfresco, it would be costing me $1,365 for colour concrete (boring!!) or merbau (stunning!) would be $4,200 min, that's a big saving. But I'm thinking of getting bits an pieces of terracotta tiles (different colours and sizes) on ebay - dirt cheap - over next few months and doing a dazzling tiled feature. Really cheap, and I reckon it will look really great. Anyways, let me know how you go! Annie A thankful person is a happy person. I was all set on coloured concrete until my brother (an apprentice chippy) started talking about different woods and how difficult (read: expensive) it would be to then do a deck over the top of in a few years time etc (must have just learned about this kind of thing LOL) so it got me wondering.... I will probably stay with the concrete but figure I should investigate prices anyway 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' That was for the size I said above, and it included the handrail and a ramp. I can give you the guys' number for materials or supply if you want to get your own quotes (I found the timber guy on ebay!)... Oh no, another thing to consier! How much are pavers? Obviously it depends on the paver, but how much does it cost to have them laid? If it's similar all up to concrete then that could be a good idea as they can be ripped up easily if I then want to do a deck in the coming years 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Louis Pasteur Vegie garden: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27637&start=0 My Backyard Adventure Re: Decking V concrete 11Aug 01, 2009 1:24 pm well we got a quote for decking just our alfresco area (35sqm), it was around $7000. For a similar price we ended up getting the alfresco plus some paths done in pavers, ended up total of 69sqm, for around the same price. Including both material and labour. So roughly half the price of decking maybe? "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Re: Decking V concrete 16Aug 01, 2009 1:46 pm Hi onc, we got 3 quotes for the paving and out of those three, 2 would ONLY do it on a cement base. Sorry, maybe this is different from a concrete slab, did I word that correctly? With a cement-based grout in between them. We still didn't want this so we went with the guy who would do it on crushed rock. He also haunched up the edge of the paving with cement to keep it more still. So far no movement! Re: Decking V concrete 20Aug 02, 2009 6:55 am lisanne It's more expensive than concrete but it is nicer that's what I reckon Even though most pavers are made of concrete! I also agree with onc to stretch to the good ones if your budget allows. We had ours laid on an ever so subtle angle away from the house so that any water will drain into the garden bed next to it. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 Appreciate that Chippy. I won’t do sand under pavers and will connect all up under pavers, however I was going to do: 1) Roadbase compacted with manual hand tamper 2)… 10 18565 |
