Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 31, 2009 5:09 pm Dear All, How are you? We have great neighbours here but one thing;when they walk their dogs they let their dogs go loose that they come to our front lawn (virtually just inches away from our master bedroom) nearly everyday and do their poo there, nature strip too for nearly 1 year now. When we politely tell them to clean up after their dogs, they will do so and next day the same scenario happen. During summer time, the dog poo attracts flies and sometimes kids step on them while playing. So we are at a boiling point here because guess who pick up the poo nearly everyday? Innocent ME!!! We tried Dog Repellant from Bunning but too costly to use and even moth balls but to no results. We love dogs too and aware of responsibility that when our dog poo, we pick it up. Please anyone any good suggestions? Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 2Jul 31, 2009 5:15 pm I don't know if this works but I was told bottles of fresh water on the lawn keeps them away! Like cool drink plastic bottles. Your neighbours are so wrong I would pick it up and put it outside their window and see how they like it Building with Homebuyers Centre El Questro! They may be able to send a letter to the street neighbours. I have to say that we have 3 cats NEXT door, 3 cats ACROSS THE ROAD, 3 cats NEXT DOOR TO THEM, and 2 cats NEXT DOOR TO THEM, oh and 1 UP THE ROAD. They ALL come to MY HOUSE and poop, in the front yard AND in the backyard. They come to my house because I DON'T have a cat. The get underneath the house and fight, so much so that they used to bump their heads and bodies on the floorboards. They also whine and fight all night. DRIVES ME CRAZY. They also fill the b/yard with fleas. This I know is true because now we are at our rental, our little dog has not had ONE flea. NOT ONE. I do not take my dog next dorr or across the road into the front yards of my neighbours to poop. She poops in my backyard and I clean it up. I really like my neighbours, they are lovely, so I haven't said anything. SO I know how you feel. Try a water pistol every time you see the dog. Maybe they will eventually learn. The bottles don't work. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 4Jul 31, 2009 5:20 pm Yep, I agree with Lynne! I say dump it over at their place - they'll figure out who's doing it and will eventually learn! Otherwise, if talking to them doesnt work, you can put in a complaint about them to the council. It's people like this that give all dog owners a bad name. I have big dogs... they do big poos! But it's my responsibility to pick it up. No-one else. I take plastic bags everywhere. What is the best way to deal with dog poo after it has been picked up though. I always pick up my dogs' poo, but I don't really like tying it up in a non-biodegradable bag and then throwing it in a bin. Or are the poo bags biodegradable? My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 9Jul 31, 2009 9:37 pm This tip is from ABC Drive - put down some manure and when they complain about the smell you can say "ohh that reminds me" I would really recommend being nice. You have to live with them and being nasty or in other peoples face rarely resolves issues - normaly escalates Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 10Jul 31, 2009 10:48 pm Just pop it over the fence if they ever ask, say their dog has dropped something and you didn't want it to get lost Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 11Jul 31, 2009 10:55 pm I would be asking the neighbour to control their dogs or to at least clean up after their dogs. If that fails then I would be re-allocating their doggy poo onto their front door! As for cats - any cat that comes near my new place, I don't care how cute it might be, it will be getting either the hose sprayed on it or a water bottle or something as I am highly allergic to them! If i wasn't so caring then it would be a BB gun 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' We tried not to involve councils because our neighbours are really nice people. They have very nice, up-class front lawn too, won't look decent if we chuck the poo there ! Maybe we should get some brochures from council re pet's owners responsibility and highlight the pick up your pet's poo part and secretly slip into their mail boxes? Reckon that will work? Have a great weekend!!! Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 13Aug 01, 2009 10:38 am Yeh the leaflette drop is good idea... Just need aout 200 and every day pop a new one in there Soon they will get the message specially if the have a few poops on their side of the fence ...and have a great day yourself Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 14Aug 01, 2009 10:50 am Your front lawn you can do something about. Nature strip is Council property so only they can do something about that. Always remain diplomatic and civil - you have to live next door to these people after all. Give them the opportunity to change their ways before trying to forcibly do it. Try talking to them, perhaps mentioning that you don't think you should have to build a front fence just to keep their dogs out, maybe mention that one of the kids walked it in one day and you had to clean it out of the carpet! Also mention that if you find that you do need a fence because the behaviour doesn't change that you will be sending them the bill! Similarly mention that you don't want to have to get the Council involved but you will if the behaviour doesn't change. Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 15Aug 01, 2009 12:31 pm Reading through these posts there is one common thread - nice people seem to see others as also nice people. The simple fact is that once a neighbour's attention has been drawn to the droppings on the front lawn and they fail to stop their dog from using your lawn as a toilet or not cleaning it up then they are NOT nice people. Once is accident, two is coincidence, three is deliberate. Write to the Council and they will act. It sounds tough but come on! It's about simple decency. Regards, John Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 17Aug 05, 2009 7:25 am Would try the leaflets then face to face approach. Some councils hand out poo bags for free so maybe make a gift of them. I'm in the 'don't escalate' camp. You have to live next door to these ppl. PS The water bottle thing doesn't work. Water pistol often does. I'm told mothballs or napthalene flakes are good to deter cats (if you can bear the smell!) As a dog owner I hate the non-poo picker-upperers. Give us a bad name. Anyway you can put up a fence? Temporary or otherwise???? Life's too short too drink bad wine Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 18Aug 05, 2009 8:50 am Dear All, Good morning!!! Thank you for your replies & great suggestions. We did the face to face b4, if we tell them, they pick up the poo, if we don't, the poo is left there. Their dogs love our front lawn, don't know why? Sigh Anyway it is very heart warming to hear so many responsible pet owners (Eg The Max,Mattydals & Hammerhead) here, wish my neighbours are like that too. They usually come back from work or b4 work, open their front door and then let their dogs out to do their business while they stay inside. We did think about fencing as well but we are in the estate that not encourages much fencing. The dogs not only poo at our front lawn & nature strips but also roll around in our garden bed that is filled with mulch. So sometimes we have to pick up mulch here and there and tidy up garden bed. I will try the moth ball flakes and see how it goes, past few days it rained that the flake flushed away. Thank you again, have a great week!!! Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 20Aug 05, 2009 3:47 pm Ah ha! The water pistol of course BUT put kero in it! The dogs will want to lick it off, heh! heh! Get a good water pistol one of the blaster kind that kids love; practice aiming for the rear end! It won't take long before all you have to do is use a touch of kero on the mulch and in small spots on the lawn and the smell will recall very bad vibes - bye bye dogs. Don't forget the dogs are a lot more sensitive to smell than you are. Again I say - these are not nice people - my suggestion (again) quite seriously is that you do contact the Council in writing. You have added more info in that now we all know that the dogs are not being supervised they are just roaming free, that is contrary to regulations. I wouldn't be surprised if a dog catcher lurked and took the dogs in. Fine and all, tough!
