Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 22Aug 05, 2009 5:51 pm JohnMich Ah ha! The water pistol of course BUT put kero in it! The dogs will want to lick it off, heh! heh! Get a good water pistol one of the blaster kind that kids love; practice aiming for the rear end! It won't take long before all you have to do is use a touch of kero on the mulch and in small spots on the lawn and the smell will recall very bad vibes - bye bye dogs. Don't forget the dogs are a lot more sensitive to smell than you are. Again I say - these are not nice people - my suggestion (again) quite seriously is that you do contact the Council in writing. You have added more info in that now we all know that the dogs are not being supervised they are just roaming free, that is contrary to regulations. I wouldn't be surprised if a dog catcher lurked and took the dogs in. Fine and all, tough! Regards, John Oh dear, John. Pls no!! Not the fault of the dogs, spray the owners with the kero. Dogs don't deserve nasty ulcers in their mouths. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 23Aug 05, 2009 8:49 pm Dear Hammerhead, You are too thoughtful. Dogs are not stupid like their owners, they will not keep licking as soon as they realise that the substance is foul tasting and offensive. They will not get ulcers, that is entirely a figment of your caring imagination- if I thought for one moment that they would I would not have suggested it, believe me on that.... Their owners will have to wash them and may get the message but if they don't it doesn't matter because the dogs will go and defecate somewhere else. Problem solved. But I say again - get the Council to fix the problem. Do it in writing AND contact the local Councillor for the ward - they want to secure votes. Geez! It's not hard you know. Just do it and stop being nice. The neighbours are mongrels and probably laughing at the ineffecual hand flapping that is going on - there is a time when enough is enough - go for it. Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 27Aug 05, 2009 11:05 pm geesh, you lot are harsh!!! all your advice hardly suits this poster's name "Serenity Home"! Firstly, I don't agree at all about dumping the poo on their lawn, that's totally ridiculous!... And obviously speaking to them (in your kind way) has proven fruitless. The reality is that some people just see things differently to others. You say they are nice people, they probably are regardless of their dogs doing what they do - and they know the dogs do it... I'm not sure why someone wouldn't address it if you had brought it to their attention. TBH, what I would do, under your circumstances, is go knock on your neighbours door. Say kindly, "just wanted to let you know that my silly spouse has put snail bait all over our garden area" (if they want to know more - just say EVERYWHERE), and you wanted to let them know because, as we all know, snail bait is poison to dogs. Less than a handful will kill them - PAINFULLY, slowly, moreover, dogs are attracted to snail bait because of the sweet smell and they love to eat it because of the sweet taste. It's a horrible thing to see a dog die of this kind of poisening. ANyways, it's important to stress that you apologise, but THEY MUST keep their dogs off your lawn (front yard). OTherwise, you can't guarantee they won't eat some and get ill. YOu can say how you saw the RSPCA Hospital show last sunday night when a large dog had eaten some snail bait, and although they got him straight to the vet, he had to be put down because the owners could not bear to see the poor pooch in constant painful convulsions (treatment did not seem to help him!) It was tear worthy TBH, and then at least if you see their dog on your lawn you can run over frantically and say "please take your dog away, I think he ate a snail bait"... Seriously, if i were you, that's what I'd do. No council, no threat of action etc, these are people you don't want to get offside, there is absolutely nothing worse than not getting along with neighbours, it's the pits. And these small issues are usually the ones that end up the biggest! A thankful person is a happy person. Are they loud or messy, are they good neighbours? Dog owners shouldn't let their dogs out without supervision or leash. what happens if they run in front of a car, or playfully knock someone over. Unfortunately these people are irresponsible, both to their pets and others in the community. I would ask them if they are happy for you to pick up their dogs mess and see what their response is. If they smile, they are happy for you to clean up , and if not, they will take you seriously and apologize. Then arrange with them to clean up daily, or preferably not let the dogs loose on your property at all. Hopefully the problem is either solved, or you know how to deal with the idiots, remember, nothing will change if you do nothing..... good luck Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 29Aug 06, 2009 12:52 am What about buying loads of fake dog poo and just loading your whole front lawn with it. Will they get the message and maybe a laugh? The end of this short clip may happen to them (From the movie Top Secret) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9f6vsvsKpY Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 30Aug 06, 2009 2:15 pm Serge's song is hilarious but you can't stand out the front singing it while their dogs cr@p on your lawn..or can you nope...I think Annietom has the answer, seems caring but we know it's not, and it's outsmarting them, passive aggressive is what it is Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 31Aug 06, 2009 4:19 pm I might be a bit dim but I don't understand what Annietom proposes if these people don't cooperate - is the next step to really but down snail bait? Regards, John Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 32Aug 06, 2009 5:35 pm many of the previous posts will cause a war, don't retaliate, yet, simply discuss first, if unsuccessful, you have a big problem , If a war starts, simply take photos or video of the offending dogs, and contact the council, they may take an interest. A few fines will stop this stupidity, but you will have enemies. Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 33Aug 06, 2009 5:52 pm Not dim, cruel. A colleague of mine said she saw in her irrigation shop a sprinkler system that has a movement sensor on it. That would be just the ticket, plus keep your garden watered. Good luck with a peaceful resolution. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 35Aug 06, 2009 8:38 pm Oh, Hammerhead, how silly of you. I think that your reference to 'dim' related to my last post. Surely you can understand that what I was querying was the suggestion by SuH that Annietom had the right idea. If you read Annietom's post, and it was intended to achieve a peaceful resolution, it was flawed in two ways. First it involved telling a complicated lie (and I despise liars, no matter the reason) and second if it did not work there was no clearly stated resolution methodology. What I was querying was where next if it did not work, surely to Heaven not to really put bait down! Your 'caring imagination' over wrought again perhaps? Take it from me there is no way ever that I would be involved by thought, words or deed in poisoning any animal. Our own Silky is a rescue dog from Animal Wefare Qld and she is our delight. So again I say the whole thing comes down to this either, put up with the **** on the lawn or get people with the power and law to act, that is, the Council to stop it for you. I might add that the ground has shifted a bit. Initially we were told that these people came out and left their dogs off the leash now it appears that they simply let the dogs outside and leave them to it. The second scenario only says to me even more clearly that these 'nice neighbours' are common mongrels. Regards, John Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 36Aug 07, 2009 9:43 am Dear All, How are you? Thank you for your feedbacks. There are two major groups of offenders here, ie local residents that take their dogs for a run (without leash) that usually poo at our nature strip, then the close neighbours' dogs that come to poo either at our front lawn or nature strip. They are very polite neighbours, some parties but not too noisy (Answer to Zaphod). That's why we don't quite understand how can they don't understand such easy principle,Pick Up Your Poo #!! We have contacted local council to see if they could erect a sign re pick up your dog poo/dog on leash sign or doggy poo bag at the reserve near us but they said not feasible at the moment. The local council has spent lots of money to beautify our reserve/park but inconsiderate people take their dogs for a walk at these beautiful parks and let their dig poo whereever they want to. So it is quite common to see dog poo everywhere even at the sport oval near us. We picked up some council leaflets re responsibility for pet owners and starting to distribute them in letterboxes. Hopefully can send the message across, " Please your dogs need to be on leash, please pick up your dog poo (not only at our front lawn or nature strip but also any public places!!!)". Wish me luck !!! Thank you again!!! Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 37Aug 07, 2009 11:13 am JohnMich.....I am sure I can speak for Annietom when I say neither she, nor myself, meant to actually put snail bait on the lawn in order to kill the dogs Re: Re : How Do I Rid Of Dog Poo From Front Lawn & Nature Strip! 39Aug 07, 2009 7:59 pm JohnMich Oh, Hammerhead, how silly of you. Dogs get into habits, they learn to go at certain places during their walk. It's even worse if they recognize it as a dumping area(the smell). You need to break the habit. Put up temporary fencing around your front garden and nature strip for about a week. If you can, sneak some dog poo into the far area of your neighbours front garden(where they won't notice). The dogs will learn to do their business there instead of your front yard. Gravity. Its the law.
