Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 20, 2009 7:49 am Hi Guys, We're gonna finish building soon and as with most new houses, most of our land surrounding the house is clay that has been flattened with an excavator. What is the best way to set up a good lawn right from the start for both the front and back yards so that weeds and other bad things can be minimised in the future. any suggestions are welcome. Great to see someone paying it some thought for change, good on ya Re: Brand New Lawn 3Jul 21, 2009 10:44 am What we did with our lawn 1. remove all existing lawn or grass that we have 2. put top soil on existing soil 3. buy plugs of Empire (we have a huge area to grow lawn, so we plant plugs) and plant them a foot apart 4. spread preventative herbicide (to keep the other grass seeds in our original soil) to germinate 5. spread lawn fertiliser... 6. water, water and water after... It seems to work up here. My back lawn is perfect... my front one still need some growing to do. Good luck. I love this lawn. Better than anything I have in the past. I don't however agree with him promoting what I think is now an outdated technique of sand and dynamic lifter. But he knows so much more about turf than I can ever imagine! What turf does he have on his lawn?... All of them true Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 3993 the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 2912 Hi All, We are building in Maitland and considering between Vision Homes or New Edge Homes (part of Masterton).
