Re: Gardening Courses 25Aug 16, 2010 10:42 pm Fu Manchu Hey ava, Allison is such a really lovely person So is your new lecturer, in fact he is really top bloke and you may find he lurks here from time to time as well Horticulture is new to the Joondalup West Coast TAFE Campus so anyone near there doesn't have to travel all the way to Swan Tafe Midland or Challenger Murdoch now Allison Varney is now lecturing at Murdoch TAFE and her Landscape design course is exceptionally good at cert IV level. At Swan TAFE Janet Atkins native plants units are exceptionally good. Her passion for WA Natives is a true inspiration to many. Can you recommend a either a short course or part time course that would be useful to get some of the basics? I'd be keen to learn more, but I don't have the time to study full-time, and some of the details of the course wouldn't be applicable to me. Thanks, Chris Re: Gardening Courses 27Aug 17, 2010 10:53 am Are you here in Perth Chris? I can spend some time late this evening finding some things for you if you want. It will have to be more ongoing though as well. Many of the TAFEs (I'll use the word TAFE for convenience as they are called all sorts of things this year ) recognise people like your self and are happy to have you do just one unit so it may mean picking something that interests you and just enrolling for that unit. It might mean 2 or 3 hours once a week and hopefully you can adjust your work to suit. Sometimes they are evening units. There's also many short courses on everywhere round the place via many associations. Organic growers and the like. The ones we have mentioned so far are excellent. Universities are also becoming more flexible and will offer in many cases, the ability to do just one unit that interests you however you may not be assessed. Hi Fu, Thanks for the offer. I am in Perth, and only a stone's throw from the TAFE in Murdoch. I will take a closer look at their course list and maybe get some ideas on units that would be of most interest and benefit to me. Don't worry too much about looking into it on my behalf at this stage. I might PM you for your opinion on one course over another though. I'd be keen to get some better insight into how to plan and manage our garden from an ongoing perspective. I am interstate for the next 7 days so won't be able to do much until late next week. Thanks again, Chris Interesting. You have great clearance to damp proof course all the way around which is rare with so many cowboy landscapers and concreters.
