Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea where to start - how many do I need, what size, where to put them, who does them (the builder or do I get someone independantly?) and how much do they cost. So many questions I don't know where to start! If anyone on here can offer some help it would be GREATLY appreciated! Not sure they are so common over East. Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 64Oct 17, 2010 12:15 am Oh well then that is fine Lizzy you need one concrete soak well per down pipe. Same with plastic soak wells. However, soakwells are limited in space and the commonly used ones are well known for filling fast and backing up the down pipe and flooding wall spaces and eaves leaving stains on the eaves. Sometimes sand is also forced up through paving due to water pressure building up. So make sure a soak well is never directly connected to the down pipe, that way when it fills, the water just floods out at ground level. This is not an issue in Perth or the Lower West coast. No flooding of the eaves or the wall spaces. Concrete soakwells are the most coomn used but they are also the most inefficient. They have very little surface area to leach water back into the soil/sand. Plastic soak wells have a slightly greater area but are not very strong. Ag drains will have a huge surface area exposed to soil in comparison to soak wells. The drainage cubes will handle anything thrown at them and are stronger than the concrete soakwells. These should be a minimum of 300mm deep so of you get someone to do them, scratch the surface and see if they have dropped them 300mm deep or just brushed sand over the cover I have had to redo so many over the years because when I go to drop the spade or shovel in I hit concrete I hate seeing folks ripped off Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 65Oct 17, 2010 6:59 am Hi Fu, You mentioned a few things here - can you please tell me if they are all different things, as by the name alone they do sound different to me. So here they are: Soakwells, Ag drains, Drainage cubes. Oh just found your posts about Drainage cubes. Google doesn't realy have any good pics of it. Is there a good resource about them? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 66Oct 17, 2010 12:27 pm If you google soakwells and select the first couple of company there, quite informative. One has a sizing chart for concrete soakwells required based on roof area required. The ag pipe info and install brief is this thread on one of the pages. . Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 68Oct 25, 2010 12:59 am Thank you for that, it's all starting to make sense! Our builder has given us a quote for soakwells, we are thinking that as first homebuilders it might be easier to do it through them first time and then learn from there? Also, our consultant told us that they require soakwells to be in before they can pave so if we wanted to do them ourselves we would have to do the paving ourselves after handover..not sure why we can't do it before the pad goes down, but I am a bit of a novice! Birds in the backyard. Need to also add Poo on the roof and gutters Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 71Oct 25, 2010 11:01 pm Having native birds around will not mean you have poo all over the roof and gutters. Introduced birds tend to do that far more as the habitats we commonly create are not well suited to attract or accommodate native birds. Little Willy Wag tails and honey eaters are more interested in being in the garden than on the gutters taking a massive dump.. Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 72Mar 05, 2011 1:59 pm I have a big roll of foamy material (geotextile) that i'm meant to use to surround the soakwells. How do I attach the material to the surrounds of the polypropylene soakwells? Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 75Mar 29, 2011 5:46 pm Hi guys! Need some educated opinion for 12 down pipe home. Installing soakwells this weekend and have the following options: 1. Tank type (versitank or ausdrain cell) - 1 standard module per downpipe + interconnected with agpipe 2. Reln rapidflow soakwells (got a quote from the installer that states that those are superior to versitank type) - 1 per downpipe + interconnected with agpipe 3. Agpipe by itself - a bit restricted on space - would have to wrap the house around few times if going 1 agpipe per downpipe Thank you! Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 76Mar 29, 2011 10:35 pm Someone with more experience with the agpipe, etc. please correct me if I'm wrong here ok... I think if your sides have 1.5M or less space down the side of the house you would need to interconnect the downpipes with normal stormwater pipe leading to a point out the front or back of the house with enough. Room to than use whatever you like so it doesn't undermine the foundation of the house. Re: SOAKWELLS - How easy are they to put in and install ? 77Apr 01, 2011 1:17 pm Hi guys! For those of you looking for the crate type soakwells, I wanted to pass on the details of a guy in Perth. Superb service! His website is http://www.soakwellsolutions.com.au I am not involved in this business, just wanted to pass on his details. The crates (132L) come pre-assembled, hole pre-drilled, with geofabric already wrapped. The crates are $52 each and if you order good quantity (like I did) - $50. Also PVC and bends and grades way cheaper then Bunnings. Those crates work out cheaper than the Reln SW with sock that Bunnings sells (sw, sock, top cover) and tubing and other accessories are cheaper too. Don't make the mistake I did - think about sw BEFORE the driveway is laid!
