Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 26, 2009 12:46 pm Hi I know there is a topic started about temp fencing, but not how to install. I have been doing a lot of googling for diy fencing, but none of the topics seem to help. I am wanting to install a cheap fence using the chain mesh for dogs at about a finished height of 1.8m. I know I need star droppers and the mesh, but what else would I need? It is not allowed to be cemented (eco-village rules). Then as I am planning on getting a dog, would I dig a bit of a trough along the fence line to bury some of the fence? The other thing is I will need a gate, so that would be one other thing I will need to buy. How do I get the star droppers in the ground and how far in the ground? Once the star droppers are in the ground is it simply a case of running the wire past the droppers and attaching with something like zip ties? I look forward to hearing from you and sorry if these are stupid questions, but complete beginner and google isn't helping. Yard is 7m x 4m Thank you again Re: Installing chain mesh fence 2Jun 26, 2009 10:26 pm Hi fnh, I'll tell you what I know (keep in mind tho, I'm really just a city girl). Are you talking about star posts/pickets? I think you are. Best way to get them in to the ground is with a star post pounder/driver. It's a metal tube that you put over the top of the post and slam down (repeatedly) until post is solidly in ground. I assume you can use a hammer, but the driver is the best. Not sure if you can hire these or not? Can buy them at farm stuff supply shops. I think it might depend on the type of soil you have, for how far the posts will need to be sunk (sandy - sink deeper?) Also might depend on whether the dog is likely to jump at the fence etc... I would bury some of the fence, not just down but towards the inside of the enclosure, so if the dog digs it will hit the mesh. Then just run the wire past and attach with ties or wire to the posts and attach the mesh in the same way. You could run the wire through the holes of the posts, but this makes it harder to replace posts if need be. Try googling star pickets or star posts or star post driver... you may find some good info. Hope this helped. buzz I helped my dad build the mother of all chicken coops about 15 years ago, glad I retained some information and that all brain cells have not been damaged beyond repair. Happy fencing! Re: Installing chain mesh fence 3Jun 27, 2009 10:32 am Thankyou Buzz that helps, I will do a little googling for star picket drivers and see what I can find... MATE!!! I've checked their website and it's a 90% match at least. I've just called them and sent the pic through to confirm it's the same product. Thank you heaps. 3 6659 Hello everyone Please advice me how can I install mesh security window or we cab say mesh flyscreen inside while the pvc plantation shutters are already installed?
