Since you are in QLD, you can probably go for 'tropical' look. Do you want to get some shade with the landscaping? How much room do you have? I didn't realise you have 5 acres.... Anyway, why aren't you into palm trees? There are so many nice one out there and it is actually less maintenance than trees and other tropicals. There is nothing better than having them around pools. How much shade do you have around the pool at the moment? Regards, Ari Ari & Scott Darwin, NT Re: landscapind ideas for pool 7Jun 23, 2009 6:29 pm well palm trees wrecked my last two pumps in my last two homes, and everyone seems to have them .Pool not in yet.Palms are just not my thing.and cockroaches hide in them well that did my last house .They not my taste I guess alot of people have them and they look great finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: landscaping ideas for pool 8Jun 24, 2009 8:42 am I like frangipanis around pool area. They are beautiful and smell nice too. Although, they are deciduous, so it might be annoying cleaning the foliage that time of the year. What about some heliconias as well? It will all depend on how much maintainance you want to do. Regards, Ari Ari & Scott Darwin, NT Re: landscaping ideas for pool 9Jun 24, 2009 5:06 pm i do love frangipanis I all ready have a lot planted along my fence line but will have to thing about them as you said only trouble droping leaves into pool.I do not mind a little bit of maintence but not alot finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: landscaping ideas for pool 10Jun 25, 2009 6:28 pm maybe look at getting a landscape designer in for a diy concept plan, the concept diy plans i do have material lists, supplier contacts etc (in melbourne). If you don't like palm, why not go for a selection of Cordylines. There are a heap that suit QLD climate, and add colour and tropical feels to your garden. Google cultivars of Cordyline such as Kiwi, Rubra, or other varities that are based on the species terminalis, or fruticosa. Plenty of foliage colour that suit the theme Re: landscaping ideas for pool 14Jun 25, 2009 10:15 pm I love lots of tropical foliage around pools. If you have shade there already, you can put in gingers, some soft foliage cycads (like zamia), some shade bromeliads... the possibility is endless... If you don't have shade, I would put some heliconias, full sun alocasia, some full sun broms (alcantera, aechmea, etc), and maybe some cycads. You can still have frangipani, just don't put it too close... I have seen them used around pools (I think it was in Made Wijaya's book), and they look really good!! BTW, decking around pool looks great!!! That is what we are going to do, when we get around into having one...
