Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 15, 2009 7:00 pm I am very new to this! Have my first home under contract and looks like its all going through. Biggest problem with house is that it is on a corner block, and not fenced, approx 615m2. The 2 sides that do have fences are rusty only about maybe 900cm high so I want to replace them eventually too. At this stage I probably can't afford to fence any of it, but I really need to do the unfenced sides if nothing else as the house is a bit elevated off the road and kind of looks like its been stuck there in the middle of no-where. And I have a dog so want a yard for her to play in - the reason I bought a house with land! House is long rectangle shape, with garage, lounge, bed 1 and bed 2 along the FRONT! So I wanted some privacy for the house also, as you can probably see from the pic there is nothing between the house and both streets (ie. gardens, etc). Also, the neighbour on the left (pic) it is their side fence that I share, and it only goes as far as the front yard of their house, so around where the rooflines end - about 10m. I have roughly done a plan of what I was thinking....Blue for gates (the shed could be used as garage so I thought a gate/gap there was necessary), red for ?? - fence, trees?, privacy!, and the yellow is for a decent fence (with bits around the shed to enclose the yard in case I don't do anything to the front as yet). Failing that, I could just fence the whole block in one, but it makes it annoying getting in and out to open/close gates all the time to get to garage if you have dogs that run away. Now, other than the design, I have no idea what material to use - but it kinda has to be cheap (and I'll have to pay someone to put it up). I am concerned that colourbond will look like too much - I want the house to blend, not stand out. So the height of the fence is also a concern - a high fence might look terrible....and I can't imagine the neighbour who I share half a fence with will like me putting up a 6 foot one from our shared 3 foot fence to the street as it kind of closes off their front yard in a way. Any suggestions on design or types of fencing? Ideas for front yard privacy - could i put up a strip of fence to act as a barrier of sorts but have it stand alone rather than ajoining other fences? Sorry this is long-winded, but trying to describe best I can. Any advice GREATLY APPRECIATED! fencing plan.jpg Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Fencing ideas for Corner block?? Just bought first home! 2Jun 17, 2009 7:22 pm Hi there, Congrats on buying a home! Sorry if this all a little confusing but i hope i may help a little. First of all, i assume your dog would get over the 3foot fence? if so then a colourbond fence is the best way to go, and they always blend in well and look good or what about Heritage fencing? (if your not sure what it is go to the stratco website and look under fencing). Even if for now you only fence in the yellow bit you have drawn on the left of the pic, least that gives the dog some running around. You could put up a fence on the inside of the neighbours fence but im not sure what you could use and also means you loose some of your land area. We have good neighbour that is 5ft high and its really good- i dont think you would have a problem with it looking awful (only if you go too high). maybe ask the neighbours they might like a better fence and be willing to pay half??? Could you maybe attach chicken wire and pickets along the neighbours fence line for now??? Also on the right hand side of the photo i see you have put a bit of yellow for fencing near the group of trees, why not just start the fence there and then bring it around to the fron with a gate were its blue (incase you need a gate there within time..) and maybe keep the fence going until the gravel bit of your driveway. so that way the front yard to the right of the pic is fenced in for the time being. Depends if you want the dog out the front or not i guess... I hope i may have helped.. Re: Fencing ideas for Corner block?? Just bought first home! 3Jun 18, 2009 8:13 am We are on a corner block and will be doing 1800 high colorbond down the side with the busy main road for privacy and then metal 'pool' fencing 1500 high around the front on the suburban street side to give it a more open look (was worried about too much colorbond too, plus we wanted our dog to be able to see out to help prevent boredom). The last panel of colorbond will be cut on a diagonal angle down to meet the height of the metal fence. Good luck deciding!
