Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 16, 2009 10:26 pm My mum has just given me 2 Agave's roughly 130-140cm in height and about 120cm in width. I was wanting peoples opinions on whether I should plant them in the garden or put them in some huge pots and have them as a feature in the backyard. If I put them in pots what style, height or width should I go with? Re: Ideas wanted on Agave's 2Jun 16, 2009 10:39 pm there is two things you will want from them in a pot. The first thing is you'll want to buy a trendy tall pot and they will look awesome. However, they will also become top heavy and blow over in the wind. Even if you fill the bottom portion of it with gravel, it won't be enough ballast. A short squat pot will see it proud in there for years Make sure you select a pot that will allow you to get it out in years to come. If it has a narrow top, you are going to have to smash it. In the garden, get it somewhere warm this time of year. In the summer, it won't matter so much Prepare the soil with some certified organic compost/soil improver/conditioner Oh and don't forget the seasol Very essential for transplanting. They're great in pots, and fantastic in the ground as well, especially in hot spots in your garden. They look even more stunning in group plantings, or in matching pots as a repetition thing.
