Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Artificial grass 21Jul 07, 2009 9:03 pm I put own Palmetto Buffalo last October (60m2) and it has done fabulously well. Little maintenance, occasional mow and weed. The main thing to do is to catch your washing machine water and switch to a non phosphate (Fu am I right?) washing detergent. This way you get all your washing machine water straight onto your lawn. We have not used our tak or mains water on our lawn since its installation. Adrian B Re: Artificial grass 22Jul 07, 2009 11:17 pm Yup as long as the laundry detergent is biodegradable it's fine for the lawn. Detergent is actually a wetting agent component too so it will keep your lawn wetter longer than straight water. Just remember to flick the diverter over to run the drain into the normal grey water drain if you decide to empty cleaning chemicals into the laundry sink! Re: Artificial grass 23Jul 08, 2009 9:39 am Another tip. or 2. Run the hose from the Washing machine outlet to the tank, but make sure the hose from the outlet hose to the tank is no morethan 3 metres, and the flow is downhill This way you will not put undue pressure on yourwashing machine pump and break it. Also make sure that you do not keep any water from washing swimming clothes and towels, due to chlorine or salt. Adrian B Re: Artificial grass 24Jul 09, 2009 5:10 pm Those looking to fake turf, did you know that to produce one bottle of bottled water takes three times the same volume of water to produce. That doesn't even go into the amount of oil and energy used! Re: Artificial grass 25Jul 09, 2009 5:16 pm I like tap water I wouldn't get fake turf cause my dog would probably eat it anyway. Same with rubber mulch. I wonder how it would look when it's been through the digestive system of a dog a few times over? My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Artificial grass 26Jul 09, 2009 5:25 pm Not sure but at least the dog would bounce with ball it is chasing Re: Artificial grass 28Jul 09, 2009 8:24 pm My dog has enough "bounce", thankyou very much! But I do wonder how artificial turf goes with dogs. A guy I talked to today said that it's actually dog-deterrent, because the fine sand that's over (?) the artificial turf starts flicking into their eyes and they stop trying to dig it up. He also said that it's easy to keep clean with dog poo, as you just pick it up, throw on some detergent and hose it off. My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Artificial grass 29Jul 09, 2009 9:41 pm We have artificial turf in our current townhouse and we have a crazy 10month old american staffy. The fake grass has handled her extremely well surprisingly She has so far managed to bite through our decking, bite through our a/c wires outside, bite a hole in our copper hot water system pipe, but has done nothing to the grass! Easy as pie to clean up her poos too My karma ran over your dogma Re: Artificial grass 30Jul 09, 2009 9:53 pm Thanks Haywgl. My friend is thinking of getting it, but her dog is normal (not insane). Your dog sounds like my old dog - she's 12 now but when she was little she was crazy (kelpie cross). My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months!
