We have a nice view out the front, across the road is paddocks with horses and sheep and a driveway that meanders across the paddocks into trees and beyond so it's ok. But the road is a main one for the area...still just a small country town main road...just gets a reasonable amount of cars and council trucks going by because it's the road you take to get to the local tip. My kids love to play in the front yard when we get home from somewhere and if I'm working out the front but I'm so nervous about it so am wondering if I could fence it in and make the fence a feature. The garden is a native, no grass garden with a large pebbled area that has large feature pebbles and the whole thing makes a great adventure playground. I just don't want it to be too imposing or to block the view out of the garden or into the garden. I'm just not sure i want a picket fence. That's all I can think of... Any ideas for a plain, hopefully cheapish to do, natural looking fence to keep kids in? I would say rustic, but that's not quite what I mean.... Re: Fencing in the front yard? 3Jun 14, 2009 12:10 am My question is...is the place safe for the kids? Though you're planning to put a fence there, take a consideration of the size and the durability of the materials you will be needed. I think huge lumbers or logs could be a good fence and more affordable than a steel. Re: Fencing in the front yard? 4Jun 14, 2009 1:48 am What about a cheap electric fence? One of the portable jobbies. That'll keep the bloody kids in Re: Fencing in the front yard? 5Jun 14, 2009 1:59 am ... or a sheepdog that you can teach to round up the kids and herd them back towards the house when required? I like my sheepdog idea better than Fu's electric fence idea! Electric fences don't necessarily look natural, but how much more natural can you get than a dog!
