I spoke to two people today who have potting mix "recipes" that I maybe able to get a hold of for you if you really need. That is an excellent find. Their certified organic mix and bulk potting mix will be great Re: Barerooting? 45Jun 26, 2009 9:18 am Thanks Fu!! Im very happy that Ive finally found a place I actually recognised BAAG from their website - they're that weird and colour one! You can see it from a mile away Thanks coopsmummy Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Their certified organic mix and bulk potting mix will be great Fu I was in a nursery today and asked them if their 'organic' soil was certified and he looked at me and said 'what do you mean by certified? All ours is mushroom compost and the like... sure im sure some places say that they sell certified organic soil but you would pay through the nose for them -chortle-' He basically tried to talk me out of thinking about certified organic soil... There are two major certifications to look for BFA Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://www.bfa.com.au/ and NASAA Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://www.nasaa.com.au/ Both these organisations have loads of info on why certifications are important. They should also have plenty of good links. Lets look at soils like mushroom compost. It will contain a large amount of chook poo. What will happen to the soils workers when it is added? (Worms that is ) If the chooks have had worming treatments (and the same goes for sheep and cows etc) then large populations of your soils worms will also be killed off. There can also be other things in the soils that may make the soil toxic to soil microbes. Certified soils rarely stink or smell. This is because they are rich in bacteria that love oxygen. These are the good bacteria. The ones that thrive in low oxygen are the ones that stink things up pretty bad and are a disease risk to us These can be bought in bags. A new one about is "The Naked farmer" by Debco. I use and recommend "God's Gift to Gardeners" here in the west and also available are Kreideman farms (spell?) organic compost sold in bags in many of Australia's garden centres, one in particular is the big green box place. There are loads of others around the country and the organic websites may have some listed and where to find them. Re: Barerooting? 52Aug 03, 2009 8:15 pm sorry for highjacking the thread Question to Fu pls, Is the bulk compost/soil conditioner from garden direct the same as God's gift? I am asking as my daughter is looking into buying her own house and she wants a little organic garden. I have been give a task to set it out for her when it happens, therefore, I would need a bit more compost that my garden generates so would that be certified, you think??? and where would one get organic herb seedlings? Whatever comes up in my garden is organic (not certified though ) but she might want something more exotic. Maggie Re: Barerooting? 53Aug 03, 2009 10:55 pm There are two bulk soils they do. One is more concentrated than the other. So suits being mixed and the other is more ready to use. I asked Gayle and she said once before that the gods gift is like the concentrated one. In small quanties they have to put something on the bag and God's Gift it is I have grown things in straight gods gift many times. In fact in a nursery I used to run we would have all different mixes cut open and growing the same veggies in each one. The God's gift was always way ahead of the others for strong growth and vigour. They also had less disease if any at all compared to the other regular potting mixes |
