Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 01, 2009 9:53 pm Hi landscaping guru's! I’m looking for some advice or ideas as to what to do with our yard and boundary fence. As you can see by the pic, our site is a cut and fill, the builders have levelled most of the block, but there was not enough fill to fill in to the side boundary. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My question is, once we do this, compact it and level it, can we just plonk a fence up on it? Or are we obliged to put some kind of retaining wall first, then fill it? It seems that our back neighbour has done the former, hence why the fence looks like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Obviously we now have to do something with retaining the back, or keep it battered back but neaten up a bit. So can we pay it forward? But, if we need to do a retaining wall, are we able to at least fill the site up a bit and then do a retaining wall so that is not over 1m (hence avoiding all the who haa with council etc) and then plonk a fence on it? or must the retaining wall start from the natural ground level? The height of the fill at its highest point (at the front) is about 1.3m. I would sincerely appreciate any advice or suggestions as to how best to tackle the landscaping/fencing of our block. Thanks in advance! Sorry, l thought l had some side on pics of our block. I will take some more tomorrow if what l have given you doesn’t really help. Re: Advice on what to do with our side boundary please? 2Jun 02, 2009 12:01 am What about covering the embankments in rocks? That would stabilise the soil enough. Then bung in the fence at the bottom? Then of course you will see into the neighbours backyard later. Then they can get on here and post about how to get some privacy from the neighbours Re: Advice on what to do with our side boundary please? 3Jun 03, 2009 9:06 pm thorney Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the neighbours liable for retaining any fill they have added at the boundary? I thought the natural contours before any cut or fill was done were pretty relevant to the retaining and who was responsible for costs etc??? Wouldn't this be unstable, erode under winter rain conditions and the fence fall down? Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 45705 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16226 You should be able to encase the sewer but you will need it designed and approved and access to lot 580 to do the work 2 17138 |
