I was watching "The Garden Guru's" yesterday and they were talking about a Vertical Herb Garden with water that recycles. Here is the description of it from the website or there is a video you can watch herehttp://www.thegardengurus.tv/tv/latest.php?current=2&sub=a it's listed 4th down the page.
Has anyone created a vertical garden like this? Is it hard to actually make as they didn't really show how to build it. I would need step by step instructions.
Vertical Herb Garden
Australia has picked up on the buzz surrounding “vertical gardens,” which have been experimented with in Europe. Neville takes you through the easy steps to create your very own.
Step to creating a Vertical Herb Gardens
1) Construct a strong frame. Expanded Propaleen Sheeting or Marine Ply will work well.
2) The inert growing medium used is called Rockwall, which acts as a super sponge, holding many times its weight in water. The Rockwall slabs are held in place by knitted shade cloth.
3) The next step is setting up the reticulation system. A pipe comes out of the micro-pump, which is situated at the base of the frame in a mini-reservoir. The piping extends to the top and along the top edge of the frame, with drippers that plunge into the Rockwall. This creates a circulating hydroponic system.
4) Then, make small incisions into shade cloth and tiny planting holes with your fingers into the Rockwall.
5) Knock as much soil as possible off roots of the plants before tucking roots into prepared pocket. Use a small piece of wet Rockwall to hold them in place.
6) A great range of herbs can be planted in the Vertical Herb Garden, including; Coriander, Sage, Chives, Basil and Mint.
