Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 03, 2009 5:41 pm We always recommend to our clients to get their hard landscaping done over autumn and winter. This allows any trees/shrubs that may need to be moved/relocated a smoother transition, therefore they are not shocked as much. This also allows the garden time to settle down over the colder months ready for the new plantings to take off next spring. Re: Hard Landscaping in Autumn. 2May 03, 2009 8:58 pm I do beg to differ a little on that but most importantly this would not be applicable to west aussies. Please try to transplant in early autumn and early to mid spring. Better still is not go by seasons but the weather (our weather doesn't conform to European seasons as much as we like to think) Look for warmer nights (temps above 10 degrees) more than warmer days. This is when the soil is still comparatively warm keeping the plants metabolism active and making for better transplant success by reducing the time the plant is in shock. If the soil is too cold the plant may not recover well. The plant needs to be able to get roots growing and healed quick so nutrients can be absorbed efficiently. This slows right down in the cold soil. Plants like fruit trees, rose and some deciduous trees may be exceptions to this but still not ideal. Also if you absolutely have to move something, well you just have too. Don't forget the Seasol. Mark the bark of the plant or a side of it somehow so it can be transplanted back facing the same aspect. Prepare the soil where the plant is being moved. Don't use manures for this because you will never really know if it is rotted or fresh. Stick to soil conditioners/ improvers or better still is the use of certified organic soils. 5 10517 Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar. Retaining wall regulations… 5 7900 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35412 |
