Hmmm - I wonder how much this steel batten product is in comparison:

http://www.metalartindustries.com.au/su ... allery.htm Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 22May 31, 2007 9:16 am That seems super pricey. My partner was thinking about doing it himself, so we may have to go for that option if it is too dear
Is it the hardwood that makes it so dear? We were thinking of getting non stained hardwood fence built and stain the timber ourselves, or buy the timber before hand, stain it, and get someone to build it. Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 23Jul 11, 2007 10:47 am i was quoted from $200 to $400 for a panel about 1.4m high and 2m wide. And the gap in between each slat was about 3+mm
Not stained and made from merbau. In melbourne, is that cheap or expensive? Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 25Jul 11, 2007 11:34 am There is a housing development near us that I think has specified that kind of fencing for the front of the houses.
And a lot of the common-area landscaping has them too. They seem to have to paint/stain them every six months or so to keep them looking good. Seems a lot of upkeep to me for a fence! But I think they look nice. Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 26Jul 18, 2007 1:11 pm Ok just got a quote for the aluminum version of the horizontal slats, its about $4800 inc GST, for about 9 slats 2150x1200 (supplied & installed).
Anyone do it cheaper in Melbourne? Would appreciate it Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 27Aug 13, 2007 8:06 am Those wooden slat fences just seem like a fashion item to me. They fail all the basic requirements of a fence:
- They are not private - Not strong - Do not block noise - Require high maintenance - Are not a secure barrier - Have a short life - Are expensive to build Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 29Aug 14, 2007 2:15 pm eimaj I agree with you Cabinfever. Great when new, but look very ordinary after being exposed to the weather for a while. Vertical pickets are more practical in my opinion. Eimaj Do vertical pickets weather better than horizontal slats? Otherwise, surely they would fall down in all the criteria Cabinfever lists? Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 30Aug 14, 2007 2:38 pm Personally, I like the idea of a hedge, they do well on all the criteria that CabinFever lists except maintenance.
Asthetics do play an important role when selling so this needs to be considered. Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 31Aug 14, 2007 5:15 pm BrdGrl eimaj I agree with you Cabinfever. Eimaj Do vertical pickets weather better than horizontal slats? Otherwise, surely they would fall down in all the criteria Cabinfever lists? Pickets stand the test of time because there's less horizontal exposure to weathering. The horizontal slats I've seen all seem to start to sag and bow after a while. And just look at how many picket fences are still holding up well in older suburbs. Easier and cheaper to replace pickets when needed too. Eimaj Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 32Aug 16, 2007 9:44 pm If they're sagging they haven't been built properly.
Hardwood screened fencing is dearer because generally you use kiln or air-dried decking timber. Normal pailing fences use green hardwood of the lowest possible grade. Hi All. I'm currently resurfacing the hardwood floors and when removing the old layers that there's a long dark line running across the boards.
