Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 14, 2007 8:41 pm Hey all!
Our Adenbrook home is finally finished with council and they are almost ready to go....YAY! I am wondering what you guys think about the following idea for a side fence (from the side of the house to the property dividing fence). Here is a link to what I am talking about http://www.nbtimberfencing.com.au/images/Website%20Photos%20Thumbs/pages/Horizontal%20Slat%20Fencing%20%20(hardwood)%20-%20Front.htm Has anyone had any experience with these fences, either building it themselves or getting it built? I am looking for opinions and estimated costs... Any comments appreciated! Thanks Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 2Apr 18, 2007 8:16 pm No luck with that link....its huge!!!

I love them, slight bit of up keep with the timber but they look great. Quite the go where I live on the south coast of NSW. I’m sure you will be very happy if you decide to do this style of fence. If you look on my website, in the Gallery under SMALL SPACE LANDSCAPING section you will see one I have designed and coloured, it came up really nice. A bit farther down is another one I did for some units, in fact that was all I was called in for ....the fence and landscaping!! Have fun!! It looked great & was suprisingly private. Plus it kept the wind down without blocking it completely. Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 9Apr 24, 2007 2:14 pm Michelle, in that one with screens that have the horizontal slats, and the ends are coloured, (bottom right pic of the spall space landscaping)
Are the ends just posts that have been painted the same colour as the render on the big fence in the background? They look great! Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 10Apr 24, 2007 2:18 pm Shooey,
Yes….these are the support polls painted in the render colour….. For the timber slates. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 12Apr 24, 2007 3:25 pm Thanks shooey,
The garden box and fence….there is a full photo of that house on my Gallery page – Externals. It shows the fence and house, this house turned out great. They were my old boss’s ….she is great to work with. She loves different things! Did you end up building it yourself or done by someone else? We need a horizontal timber slat fence sized roughly 3.6 m wide x 1.8 m high. Could you or anyone else refer me to someone who can do this for us in Melbourne? Thanks, Jazz Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 17May 11, 2007 2:53 pm No, we have not built our fence yet - heck, only the site cut is done on the house But we will be getting in a professional to do it. And by professional, I mean a local fence builder from the local paper. Saving money all the way! We could do it ourselves, but we are a bit lazy, I think I don't think it's a difficult job, any fencer could do it....Just don't know how much extra it would cost!
We are thinking of staining the wood ourselves, maybe after the fence is constructed if it will save a few $$$ ....hmmmm....what do you guys think about that? Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 19May 20, 2007 7:44 pm I think we will need one of these fences to screen our washing line from view - that sounds super pricey!
It doesn't look too difficult to make yourself though. My father in law is super handy - we may impose on him Re: Horizontal Hardwood Slat Fence 20May 21, 2007 8:36 am Looking at the photo, I would say that would have cost about $2.5k in timber alone, based on:
20 slats high - Merbau (as an example) is about $3.20 p/m. for for every metre of fence you are up for $64. Add the posts, staining, concrete for the posts. I wouldnt be surprised if that fence costed about $4k. or more. Adrian B Hi All.
