Is it the same plant? The leaves look different and it would be unusual for two plants the same to have one in flower and the other not. If they are different plants the first is a mexican lily or maybe a yucca filimentosa or gloriosa. (not yucca elephantipes) The second? Re: quest for Fu.. do you know..... 4Apr 27, 2009 10:37 pm had to get your brain working Fu From what i remember about those plants either the 1st or second plant was spiky and different species .Think the 1st was called a Mexican grass something! Wonder if their from the cactus family Got the photos in my phone so might visit a nursery Re: quest for Fu.. do you know..... 5Apr 27, 2009 11:59 pm It will still be a yucca. This is what i came up with Agave angustifolia var Marginata and there was another Yucca but i thought i saved it in my fone but i didnt Will have go look again. but they look similar Re: quest for Fu.. do you know..... 11May 03, 2009 8:27 pm There loads and loads of plants that look like each other and that is why botanical names are used.Plants are not classified by the appearance. They are classified by the flower in nearly every case. Even though these do look like yuccas and also xanthorea (grass trees) they are not. The flowers they produce identify them as Dasylirion. In the name you found Clath, the term "marginata" used identifies a feature of the margins of the leaves on that plant Like with Dracaena Marginata, the Marginata identifies the colourations on the leaf margins I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
