Brought to you by the Nursery and Garden Industry of Western Australia. It has a better feel this year with many WA growers there showing new and old plants that you can ask your local garden centre for. Landscape ideas from our best designers will feature and you can get some good ideas for your place from them There will be members of the Horticultral Media Association doing talks and the lovely Sue Mac Dougall who is on 6PR every weekend will be there to sort your problems along with the entertaining John Colwill (who you may know did the ABC weather years ago). Those two can answer any garden question you have ...any Those who are lucky enough to catch Steve Wood at the Yates tent would be doing themselves a favour to sit down and listen to some of his talks. A truly inspirational Horticulturist and all round top bloke Matthew Lunn from RTR FM should be there with the Hort Media Association and can offer some excellent advice and info Lena from The Gardens of Noble Falls will be there showcasing some of the most comprehensive day lilly varieties in Australia as well as iris. Muchea Tree farm will also be there with an excellent selection of incredible WA natives. The advice they provide is exceptional when it comes to our native plants Located at Perry Lakes in Floreat, the gates open at 9.30am and close at 5pm from Thursday 8th April to Tuesday 13st April 10. The fantastic team from the Great Gardens will also be there. I'll be there on Saturday and I hope you go along too for what will be a great day more info to be found here... http://www.gardenweek.com.au/attractions.htm This is a Telethon event. http://www.telethon.7perth.com.au/ Here's how West Aussies can make sand into soil Checkout The Forever Project Before starting your landscape attend a FREE Great Gardens workshop

Re: WA Garden week 3Apr 15, 2009 11:08 pm Sorry folks I won't be working there, instead enjoying the best the WA industry has to offer. I hope to catch up with a few people I haven't seen in a while and chew the fat with others Re: WA Garden week 4Apr 20, 2009 7:12 pm Last chance tomorrow! Tuesday is the last day Had some excellent feed back this year from those who went. Tuesday has some excellent presentations. 10-10.30 the palm and cycad society are up. then 10.30-11am Jackie Hooper from Zanthorea is talking cottage gardens. between 11-12 is Graham Ross and then at 12 a favourite person of mine is Lisa Passmore talking about creating award winning landscapes and how to do it at home. Trevor Cochrane is talking about edible plants then at 1.30 Graham Ross is on. At 2.30 Nick Bell is taliking on a favorite topic of mine, Turf without chemicals and to finish off Bob Melville has his amazing knowledge of roses to share with you Re: WA Garden week 6Apr 22, 2009 11:05 pm Well it was one of the most successful garden weeks ever. A huge turnout and along with all the hard work lots of great people got to get together and share gardening Thanks to everyone who went along Re: WA Garden week 7May 07, 2009 8:51 pm Fu Manchu Well it was one of the most successful garden weeks ever. A huge turnout and along with all the hard work lots of great people got to get together and share gardening Thanks to everyone who went along I didn't get to go this year, any pics, Fu? Re: WA Garden week 8May 07, 2009 10:21 pm Yes but will I upload them all I know... lazy I will see how much time I get in the morning Re: WA Garden week 11May 08, 2009 1:15 pm well I wasn't there. that's why i want yours ~~~ hehe photos of beautiful trees coming up soon. I think we are going tree cruising again today and all weekend. Re: WA Garden week 12May 08, 2009 3:40 pm Yeah down your way is amazing right now. I guess it is WA garden week on a massive scale in the SW right now For those that don't know (all you Mexicans on the other side of the boarder), the South West corner is like a bigger version of visiting Omeo in Vicco right now. One hell of an Autumn display of colour There are loads of orchids that will be putting some colour in the landscape too Re: WA Garden week 13May 08, 2009 6:51 pm we have to go to balingup tomorrow so we are considering going to http://www.goldenvalleytreepark.org.au/ and at some stage soon to visit the smalltreefarm to check out the colour displays. we are considering a row of japanese maples . I just wanted one but hubby thought an entire row of them would be even better instead of my idea for fruit trees. sigh. So now it looks like front garden will have a weeping willow, a flowering plum and hmm one other tree( this was where i wanted the japanese maple) on the n/east side a row of japanese maples ( we decided cottonwoods were too big) and out the back there will be a weeping mulberry tree plus there are about 5 or 6 gums already on site. I still would like a magnolia somewhere as well. how about this for a start... We are assuming this is a japanese maple not a red maple or one of the other varieties. but we are happy to be told otherwise. I hope this changes ion the years to come and that the Landscapers Association gets involved more and encourages it's members to participate more. Most of my photos focused on design ideas. Little things that you guys might get some sort of inspiration from... and me First up we have the raised corry bed. An excellent use of Bamboo to act as a screen. The same idea can be done with any large shrub or small tree as well http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0497.jpg http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0499.jpg and I loved this sculpture and is even better if the "o" is a favourite Many would hate though and I guess I can see why http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0501.jpg I forgot this lovely ladies name but this is her garden she designed. I liked the use of the door on the wall to create a more comfy space instead of feeling all the walls around you. http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0502.jpg Some small simple easy care features anyone can make http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0504.jpg Growing your own veggies and food doesn't need to take up space or look terrible http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0505.jpg This would be easy to do and cost to make and buy would be around the $150 mark including plant http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0505.jpg This fella is kind of cool looking http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0510.jpg Here is one of the standard Grevilleas I sometimes mention grown by Domus and available intermittently throughout the year for order from your local garden centre http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0512.jpg Funky looking wall art http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0513.jpg This I liked. It had a light socket in it. Great for those Bali style gardens everyone seems to want. I guess it was also deep enough in there for a candle. http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0517.jpg This was a great reminder that making something doesn't cost the earth. If you are on a basic budget this is a real possibility. Of course it wasn't done as well as it really could have been but the idea is a good reminder http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0518.jpg This is a Trout in an backyard aquaponics set up. The veggies are floating on the top in a bit of polystyrene They grow off what the fish make and then the water is kept clean. There will be some tasty fish to have as well .. as long as you don't give them names http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0535.jpg I wish I had room for this old vine http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0545.jpg This is just a small part of a garden designed by Ben Mitchell from Growing Free. He designs edible landscapes and makes your garden a practical one and attractive. this is very young of course and was only a small part of it. The plants in the blue pots are from a different display. Hopefully some sparks of ideas for others Note the mulch used as well. It's what I'm always on about Fresh green mulch from a eucalypt that smelt lovely The most waterwise mulch you can get and also the best for your soil and plants http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0547.jpg Nothing really creative about this but was a nice reminder of the effectiveness of bringing fire into a landscape. Design a fire pit for people to sit around or just a place to sit by like this one. I like formal stonework style fire pits outside myself. They are so good on a cold winter evening It makes a greater use of your garden why you may otherwise not be in it http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0550.jpg This would look great on a deck or by a pool. So many plants you could use too http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0555.jpg All WA plants here at the Zanthorrea display And how good is the art work http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0558.jpg Some wall plaque ideas http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0566.jpg This made me laugh, you can by lollies by the truck load!!!! (top middle ) http://i308.photobucket.com/albums/kk321/FuManchu5ltr/IMG_0572.jpg Re: WA Garden week 16May 09, 2009 3:21 pm actually Fu it looks like those pics might have been of a Liquidambar stryaciflua. which seems odd as they were planted in a car park in town here. not of a maple at all. darn shame as we love the leaf colour and the seed pods. but they get a bit big from the example we just saw at the tree park to plant a row or even one of them. sigh... Re: WA Garden week 17May 09, 2009 3:29 pm This feature wall art is beautiful. I really like this style. Love that green tiles sculpture thingy. YUm YUm to the trout. Hmm wall art. we have to come up with something for a wall at the front of our house at some stage. Re: WA Garden week 18May 10, 2009 12:13 am Talk about a small world! Today we went to a shop in Joondalup to get a mothers day pressie and they had all the wall art pictured and a bunch of other stuff too. I asked if they had a stall at garden week and the bloke says "No that was an Ossie park mob"... "but we sponsored the winning design" That winning design was the one with the purple wall and the door. Her name (the lady pictured) is Monica Palmer of MP Landscape Designs Re: WA Garden week 20May 10, 2009 12:47 am The last pic in your quote. Um trying to think of the place. The Complete Garden on Winton road round the back along the bit where the freeway is. Near Bouncers indoor sports place but on the other side of the road. Hi Everyone I learned something this week that I thought would be worth sharing. In NSW a lot of developers of subdivisions put covenants on the land which normally… 0 5006 Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 5987 |
