Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 09, 2009 3:44 pm i'm planning to do my lawn over this long weekend, and thinking to use Munns lawn seed since I heard so many things about this lawn seed. However, i just red the packets and it recommend me to mix the seed with the starter fertiliser. it didn't say in what ratio. anyone know what would be the best ratio for this? is it the more fertiliser the better? Re: munns lawn seed 2Apr 09, 2009 7:01 pm I don't generally suggest using the starter (but I bet someone will catch me out) Stick with adding organic material to the soil. The starter is a Munns product as well (funny that ) Where abouts are you located? If you are in WA then I don't suggest using a seed. You just feed the ants It is also very resource intensive to get seed to get going here. The rest of Australia can be different in places. Try to get some of the better ones they do. Have you also looked at planting runners of a buffalo like CT85, Palmetto or Sir Walter maybe too if available in runners where you are? Re: munns lawn seed 3Apr 10, 2009 1:53 pm Maybe I'm just lucky, but I just loosen up the topsoil, sprinkle the seed, rake the dirt over, water & wait. Haven't had a failure yet. Havent had to lay lawn seed for a few years now but I remember I didnt want Couch as it creeps, turns yellow easily, retains a lot of heat and moisture on humid days, and gets into garden beds easily. I remembered Kentucky was all the rage a few years back and also my father had been allergic to Rye Grass, so I was a little challenged when I got to Bunnings South Morang yesterday. Firstly finding someone who knew grass seed, I went through 3 salespeople. Finally got a chap who knew a little. We spent 30 minutes reading the seed mix on the packets as it turns out most packets have some form of Couch and decided the Munns had the best quality. Obviously a bit dearer too but if you want that golf course green look, this stuff seems like it will do the job. Then I saw this post and feel much happier with my choice. We are going to tidy up the back yard which is still on a building site and level it off as best as we can and throw it down and see what happens. My main concern for us is we havent worked out our backyard plan yet but I don't want to move in to the house in a few weeks and have a load of dirt blow in to my lovely new carpets and tiles. We are having the front landscaped through the developer but they have turf. I love the idea of throwing down some lawn seed yourself and waiting those weeks to see the germination. A very moving moment when it shoots through. And if its sparce you can see where to thrown down more see to fill in the gaps. Intoxicated- yours should be through soon, can you loads some pics? Would love to see. we are selling and moving to the coast, if you know someone who wishes to buy in Mernda Villages, please visit this link http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107083288 the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4999 |
