I think it's gorgeous, just have to work out where it might look nice at my place. Will make sure I get the non-weedy type. ICK - no I didn't see any rhodies sorry! It was very slow going with the two kids, I thought we did well to see as much as we did, but there's lots we couldn't get round to. I'm a clematis convert though! thanks kyton she is rather precious, I just want to eat her up sometimes "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. I just thought I would go back as I did not want to carry it all day. Of course, got carried away and forgot. Then you just walk across to the gardens. It's in Fitzroy St, which is a one-way street you enter from Victoria Parade. It's between Nicholson and Brunswick Sts. Other than that, you might crack it for a four-hour meter if they still exist? The advantage would be that as plants finished cropping and/or started to look a bit bedraggled, you could remove them and swap something into their place. The one thing I hate about veggie gardens is that it's impossible to keep them looking fabulous all the time. That nursery is near Mernda - just detour down Gorge Rd (right at the pub at South Morang if you're headed north) and then take a right turn onto Yan Yean Rd. It's where I got my letterbox from. They have some nice pavers and pots and their plant selection is usually good... That's one of my favourite plants - Cordyline Red Star (or a similar cordyline variety) I'm glad you found lots of things you liked, Lisanne...told you it was worth going! Re: Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2009 33Apr 04, 2009 9:03 pm I must admit I took that photo with the sign in it deliberately so I didn't have to write down their address! I think I know which one they are and being local is even better! I ideally don't want to grow vegies in pots, might do it with some herbs though 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Louis Pasteur Vegie garden: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27637&start=0 My Backyard Adventure Re: Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2009 34Apr 05, 2009 3:23 pm I spoke to one of the blokes on the stand there. The stainless steel units are manufactured in Belgium and are distributed by a mob in Melbourne. Each of the 'walls' comprised of two of these units...double sided. They are full of potting mix. Each unit costs $3000, so $6000 for a double sided. And they had 4 or 5 of them on display! We saw the Better Homes & Gardens exhibit...looked excellent. Jason Hodges was there and my wife thought he looked pretty good...she said she'd be tempted to try and plant one on him if she saw him up close! We were at another stand about an hour later...and guess who walks past! I said to him, "Hey Jason, my wife wants to give you a kiss". He responded "well that's good, because I want to give her one". So he planted a big one on her cheek...she looked the colour of a beetroot. Not sure if I should post the pic...might embarrass her Re: Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2009 35Apr 09, 2009 7:33 pm StressedOut I went about 3 yrs ago, and I seen a garden rake that folded over the leaves to pick them up. LOL I recall mum and dad having one of those in the 70s Re: Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2009 36Apr 09, 2009 7:38 pm that fancy stand is something that has been done for a while. I have a mate who does that on a regular basis. He uses weldmesh with 100mm squares and lays it back against the fence and attaches a timber frame of course around the sides and top. Then he gets potted colour just like those petunias pictured and inserts the pots into the squares. One time he did a feature that also carried out into a bed below and it looked like the colours flowed down the wall and into the garden bed below I wonder if he still has the pictures? I might ask him Weldmesh is way cheaper than the fancy set there sorry to be a fun wrecker Re: Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2009 37Apr 09, 2009 7:48 pm Did anyone get some pictures of the Eucalypt with burgundy leaves? A new one featured at the show. I'd love to see a shot of it used there Re: Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2009 38Apr 09, 2009 8:27 pm Fu Manchu StressedOut I went about 3 yrs ago, and I seen a garden rake that folded over the leaves to pick them up. The base/rake part folded and sandwiched the leaves. At the moment I use two big lid looking things with rake like teeth on one edge to pick up leaves and garden rubbish. I drilled a hole in them both and drilled a hole in the bin and cable tied a metal hook on so I could hang them on it (and not have the hook fall off) Hi , I'm currently going through this now within the Whitehorse council which has a similar set of restrictions.
