Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 29, 2009 7:56 pm Hey all, DW and I are going to plant some 3-4ft standard roses in our deck bed, and wanted to plant something underneath. We were thinking about some herbs as we use some in our cooking. The beds get full sun and are exposed to the elements. We will be planting 7 roses per bed (2 beds), so other suggestions as to what to put under the other 'slots' would be appreciated. I did the mother outlaws with African box as a hedge and it came up ok Flower carpet roses may also be an option but you'll need to keep them clipped along the garden edge. Annuals like African Marigolds (the big ones) would go well too. Cheap to buy and replace seasonally. Or try million bells petunias (also sold as Callibrachoa) or colourwave petunias. they go a bit off in the coldest part of winter but hey, just cut 'em back and they go well. They will love the same organic material required for roses and the fertilisers too 0 4707 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16148 I want to build a bigger driveway (without a nature strip) than has been approved under my CDC.
