Aquaponics in garden design 10Mar 27, 2009 11:36 pm I thought I'd start a thread on the topic of aquaponics. It is a bit different to a "traditional" veggie garden and I think a better alternative. This is a fantastic way to look at growing your own food. Combining fish/yabbies and veggies that all balance each other to produce cheap healthy food in your back yard. Very effective and the kids can get a really kick out of it too. Types and sizes of designs can vary from professionally made set ups but the best ones are those made up of recycled items and cheap bits and pieces. It doesn't have to be ugly nor will they be something to ruin a formal garden. In fact I'd love to see people adapting the concept to more garden designs. Here in Perth we have a few mobs designing gardens around the grow your own concepts. They make a professionally landscaped design that amazes most people. Growing your own food is a growing market in Horticulture, the retail nursery industry and now in landscaping which is great. Now I will admit I have not ever set one of these up, but the concept is one of interest to me and many others interested in better food growing options at home.
