Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 27, 2009 11:32 pm OK following on from viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12372&hilit= ...can I ask a favour from a Photoshoppe Expert....please... I've finished one part of the backyard apart from finishing off the path with granitic sand and a stack of tubestock dietes to put around a dry river bed, a callistemon behind the seat, and a couple of other plants. My intention is that the 40 sq.m kidney shape area below will have grass (if it every bloody rains!!!)... Currently there is a strong stand of lippia in it (I know...I know...it's a weed... ) which in another part of the garden I've mowed and kept in check...it looks OK...well it's green at least ...anyway once the tanks fill up I might try to grow some grass from seed...after removing the lippia. Ummm...perhaps on off-beat request...could someone photoshop genius fantasmagorically make some grass appear in the kidney shaped area for me...I'm impatient to know what it will look like.... ...I can dream can't I? It would end up an orchard and a forest Re: Château TDL: Backyard Chapter...Photoshoppe Request 3Mar 28, 2009 6:37 am Hi Mike Still no photoshop but I just wanted to say what a tremendous job you have done Very inspiring and so much hard labour has gone into the construction of your garden. Looking forward to pictures of how the garden is developing over the next few months (years really as it takes a while for plants to become established) Mrs B Re: Château TDL: Backyard Chapter...Photoshoppe Request 4Mar 28, 2009 7:57 am Hi TDL it looks amazing! I just read through your other thread and I don't know if I missed it or not...but what is your edging made from and how did you do it. To my challenged eye it looks like bricks or pavers, but I wasn't sure... Thanks Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! You have done a great job of the garden - well done The grass will look lovely there - why not fake grass? I know some hate it but I have it in my current house and LOVE it!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: Château TDL: Backyard Chapter...Photoshoppe Request 10Mar 28, 2009 10:35 pm Thanks guys @ misskittyfantastico... thank you very much for your work it looks great now I can only dream...I hope the littlies enjoy it too...I know the 18 month old is desperate to run around in the garden whereas the 5 year old is going on 15 and is well...bone lazy sometimes... @ FuMan...there's still the other half of the backyard and about 3 or 4 metres behind the cubby....not done yet @ MrsB...takes a while, fortunately the front and a side courtyard were completed by the first owner and so they are about 8 years old. I do tend to go for smaller plants...in my previous garden I always found that the tubestock and say 150 mm pots where neck and neck by about 18 months...yet the price difference was $3 versus $10-$15...adds up when you buy a lot of plants...and I like bushy unstructured plantings even though I've formalised the garden beds - does that make sense...I can't bring myself to pay a fortune for plants. @ kyiee81...the edging is very simple and perhaps not the way most people would do it. It's all secondhand bricks - I've always loved the look - and it matches the house. I dig a trench about 100 mm deep and stand the bricks on end...I then pound soil back around the bricks with the tail end of a fencing bar...wetting it a little between layers...the result is a row of bricks sticking about 120 mm out of the ground - strong enough that I accidentally backed the trailer with 3/4 of a cubic metre of soil up and over the bricks and they didn't move. Once there's garden bed on one side and path materials or lawn base on the other - it ain't gonna move. In my previous house I used red gum sleepers which looked OK but you're limited in design, the bricks allow a bit more creativity in form...and I also don't like permanent edgings...in my previous house I changed the garden beds at least three or four times. @ donuts...works in progress...one part of the backyard will come together once the extension is done...I'm going to screen off the shed...which will also screen off a utility area for trailer...compost...and other paraphernalia. I've also still got a substantial bit of garden to do next to the cubby...along the back fence...and a secret spot under the cubby...and a bit either side of the concreting that got done a while ago @ southies...bribery maybe? @ wonderland...thanks... @ haywgl...artificial turf is 'spensive for good quality like TigerTurf. It would cost about $2500-$3000 for the 40 sq.m based on some of the prices of seen on H1. I know it's practical...but I worry about whether I'll like it in the long term... ...the advertising is all around saving water and that it's a green alternative....but the closet greenie in me knows that a lot of water and oil are used in the production of synthetics... : is it more water than I'd pour on grass - is that really the right thing to do ...I'm in two minds...and sorry I'm not being critical of your choice...I'm seriously considering it but at the moment it's the $. I agree about the price and also the environmental factor - we are still tossing up whether to use it or not in our new place, but for this house we found it to be great to spruce up the backyard ready for sale My karma ran over your dogma Re: Château TDL: Backyard Chapter...Photoshoppe Request 12Mar 29, 2009 8:51 pm to_do_list artificial turf is 'spensive for good quality like TigerTurf. Hyster...the "source" was a number of posts on here which FuMan had already collated previously and a rough pricing from a catalog from local nursery...although it didn't look as good as TigerTurf. Fu Manchu I hate the stuff personally. Lawns produce a heap of oxygen and also add a significant cooling effect for around your home, therefore saving energy in other ways. I love a good lawns, but hey Rather than synthetic turf I would much rather see our landscape designs move away from incorporating lawn areas. I feel synthetic turf is a temporary means of the population to ween themselves off lawn. like a nicotine patch In years to come I think we will be reading threads about dated fake turf and how to remove it That is just me though and I do know a great installer of this who uses some good quality synthetic turf.
